Covid 19- India’s daily cases dip below 50,000 cases after 91 days. The country recorded 42, 627 cases yesterday, which is the lowest daily case count in 3 months. A lower tally than this was last recorded on 22nd March 21, when 40,652 cases were recorded. The death toll from the virus was 908, excluding 258 old deaths reported by Maharashtra. Before this on 12th April 21, 882 deaths were recorded and had remained in four figures till 20th June. It looks like 2nd wave of the pandemic is ebbing, which is a good sign. But with the indication of 3rd wave in offing, we can not lower our guard.
As there is no other interesting current affairs news worth mentioning, today I am switching over to health-related topic.
Cabbage does not really figure in the top five favourite vegetables of most people, It is humble, available throughout all seasons in India. It is widely used in salads, burgers, and tacos, especially in the west. In India, the Patta Gobi or cabbage is cooked in various ways to make into tasty dishes. Though not a popular one, cabbage is actually one of the healthiest vegetables, coming from the cruciferous family of vegetables. It is loaded with nutrients, that have a lot of health benefits. Consumption of cabbage helps reduce the chances of diabetes, heart disease, and obesity. What’s more, it even helps improve your morality and gives you a lot of energy. It is also easy to cook and store, and has a longer shelf life than most other vegetables. It can also be cooked independently, or with some pulses or other vegetables as well.
IMMUNITY BUILDER— The fibre in cabbage, along with its water content helps keep your gut healthy and promotes digestion. Eating cabbage prevents constipation, which is a major issue in aged people. It also removes the toxins through stool and bile, thus keeping you healthy. It has been proven that that cabbage also helps build immunity and works against inflammation. As we know, inflammation is linked to many diseases like cancer, obesity, heart diseases etc.
ANTI CANCER PROPERTIES—Lot of research done on this topic has proved cruciferous vegetable consumption helps reduce the chances of cancer. Many people do not like cabbage as it is having a bit of a bitter taste, which is because of a compound called sulforaphane. This is the same compound that makes it an anti-cancer agent, There is an age-old saying that most healthy stuff, won’t taste as great is true after all. Cabbage also contains another compound called apigenin. This chemical has been found to reduce the size of breast cancer tumour. Another compound found in cabbage called 3,3’-diindolylmethane (DIM), has shown significant anti-radiation effects. So overall, it appears that it is good to include cabbage in your diet, for a good anti-cancer diet.
HEART HEALTH—Flavonoid-rich vegetables like cabbage are good for maintaining good heart health. Additionally, certain heart diseases are caused due to inflammation and cabbage contains a high level of polyphenol, which helps prevent platelet build-up and reduce blood pressure. all these properties make cabbage a good vegetable to ensure your heart health.
NUTRITION FACTS—Why cabbage is called a powerhouse of nutrients? Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Vitamin B6, folate, magnesium, calcium, potassium, thiamin and host antioxidants make a cabbage a highly nutritious vegetable. A compound in cabbage has been linked to the prevention of macular degeneration, while other to vision health. Certain studies have also indicated that compounds in cabbage can help with skin and hair health as well. However, as a risk factor for those already on diabetes medication, cabbage may further reduce blood sugar levels. It has also been known to interfere with the thyroid hormone. So, those who are on medication for these two issues should consult the doctor before consuming too much cabbage.

The central government aims to vaccinate all of its adult population by the year-end. But it needs to maintain/ increase the pace of vaccination to achieve the target. This will help to keep COVID under severe control but people should come forward and take it as some of them still fear of side effects.
Very true there are impressive health benefits of cabbage .With so many potential health benefits, it is easy to see why cabbage deserves some time in the spotlight and some room on your plate.
