In today’s weekend blog, I am writing about the blockbuster films which did the maximum business in that particular calendar year. The collections are considered for the business done in India only. The years chosen are 1989 to 2020.

Please note that for every year one film is chosen which did the maximum business in that year. Critics may not have liked that film but it did maximum business.

1989Maine Pyar Kiya, directed by Sooraj Barjatya,starring Salman Khan, Bhagyashree, Alok Nath. Production cost Rs 2.75 Cr, Collection Rs 14 Cr.

1990- Dil, directed by Indra Kumar, starring Aamir Khan , Madhuri Dixit, Anupam Khar. Production cost Rs 1.75 Cr, Collection Rs 10 Cr

1991- Sajan, directed by Lawrence D’Souza, starring Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, and Salman Khan. Production cost Rs 2.8 Cr, Collection Rs 10 Cr.

1992- Beta, directed by Indra Kumar, starring Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit. Prosuction cost Rs 2.3 Cr, Collection Rs 13 Cr.

1993- Aankhen, directed by David Dhawan, starring Govinda, Chunkey Pandey.Production cost Rs 3 Cr, collection Rs 17 Cr.

1994- Hum Aapke Hain Koun, directed by Sooraj Barjataya. Starring Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan. Production cost Rs 6.25 Cr, collection Rs 72.47 Cr.

1995-  Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, directed by Aditya Chopra, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. Preduction cost Rs 4 Cr, Collection Rs 53.31 Cr.

1996- Raja Hindustani, directed by Dharmesh Darshan, starring Aamir Khan and Karisma Kapoor. Production cost Rs 5.75 Cr, Collection Rs 43.15 Cr.

1997- Border, diected by JP Dutta, starring Sunny Deol, Sunil Shetty, Akshaye Khanna. Production cost Rs 10 Cr, collection Rs 39.46 Cr.

1998- Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, directed by Karan Johar, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol & Rani Mukherjee. Production cost Rs 10 Cr, collection Rs 46.87 Cr.

1999- Hum Saath Saath Hain, directed by Sooraj Barjatya, starring Salman Khan, Tabbu, Karisma Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan. Production Cost 17 Cr, collection Rs 39.16 Cr.

2000- Kaho Naa Pyar Hai, directed by Rakesh Roshan., starring Hrithik Toshan and Amisha Patel. Production cost Rs 10 Cr, collection Rs 44.28 Cr.

2001- Gadar, directed by Anil Sharma, starring Sunny Deol, Amisha Patel and Amrish Puri. Production cost Rs 19 Cr, collection Rs 76.88 Cr.

2002-  Devdas, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwariya Rai and Madhuri Dixit. Production cost 30 Cr, collection Rs 41.66 Cr.

2003- Koi Mil Gaya, directed by Rakesh Roshan, starring Hrithik Roshan, Rekha & Preity Zinta. Production cosr Rs 30 Cr, collection Rs 47.2 Cr.

2004- Veer Zaara, directed by Yash Chopra, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukherjee & Preity Zinta. Production cost Rs 27 Cr, collection Rs 41.86 Cr.

2005- No Entry, directed by Anees Azmi, starring Anil Kapoor,Salman Khan Fardeen Khan and Bipasha Basu. Production cost Rs24 Cr, collection Rs 44.72 Cr.

2006-  Dhoom 3, directed by Sanjay Gadhvi, starring Hrithik Roshan, Aishwariya Rai, Bipasha Basu & Abhishek Bachchan. Production cost Rs 43 Cr, collection Rs 81 Cr.

2007- Om Shanti OM– directed by Farah Khan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone. Production cost Rs 40 Cr, collection Rs 78.17 Cr.

2008- Ghajini, directed by AR Murgodass, starring Aamir Khan, Asin & Jia Khan. Production cost Rs 52 Cr, collection Rs 114 Cr.

2009- 3 Idiots, directed by Raj Kumar Hirani, starring Aamir Khan, R Madhvan, Sharman Joshi & Kareena Kapoor. Production cost Rs 75 Cr, collection Rs 202.95 Cr.

2010- Dabang, directed by Abhinav Kashyap, starring Salman Khan, Sonakshi Sinha. Production cost Rs 41 Cr, collection  Rs 138.88 Cr.

2011- Body Guard, directed by Siddiqui, starring Salman Khan & Kareena Kapoor. Production cost Ra 70 Cr, collection Rs 148.86 Cr.

2012- Ek Tha Tiger, directed by Kabeer Khan, starring Salman Khan & Katrina Kaif. Prosduction cost Rs 92 Cr, collection Rs 198.78 Cr.

2013- Dhoom 3, directed by Vijaya K Achraya. Starring Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif. Production cost Rs 175 Cr, collection Rs 284.27 Cr.

2014- P K, directed  by Raj Kumar Hirani, starring Aamir Khan, Anushka Sharma. Production cost Ra 122 Cr, collection Rs 340.80 Cr.

2015-  Bajrangi Bhaijaan, directed by Kabir Khan, starring Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor. Production cost 125 Cr, collection Rs 320.34 Cr.

2016- Dangal, directed bt Nitesh Tiwari, starring Aamir Khan, Sania Malhotra, Fatima Shaikh. Production cost 132 Cr, collection Rs 387.36 Cr.

2017- Tiger Zinda Hai., directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, starring Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif. Production cost Rs 210 Cr, collection Rs 339.16 Cr.

2018- Sanju, directed by Raj Kumar Hirani, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma & Vicky Kaushal. Production cost 96 Cr, collection Rs 342.53 Cr.

2019- War, directed by Siddharth Anand, starring Hrithik Roshan, Tiger Shroff and Vani Kapoor. Production cost Rs 200 Cr, collection Rs 317.91 Cr.

2020- Tanhaji, directed by Om Raut,starring  Ajay Devgan, Saif Ali Khan and Kajol. Production cost Rs 125 Cr, collection Rs 279.55 Cr

Now if you see the list in the period 1989 to 2020, Salman Khan has  given 11 blockbuster films, Aamir Khan 7, Shah Rukh Khan 5, and Hrithik Roshan 4. So you can safely say these 32 years  were ruled by Khans, as out of 32 blockbuster they were part of 23 blockbuster films which were number 1 business wise when released in that year.
