In this weekend blog, I am still on National Film Awards and this week I will be covering  Music Directors and Lyricist who work/worked in Bollywood Hindi films and  have the  National awards in their respective categories.

National Film Award for Best Music

1 1968 Kalyanji Anandji for film Saraswati Chandra. It really had great music based on Indian folk music, and who can forget the song “Main To Bhool Chali Babul Ka Des, Piya Ka Ghar Pyara Lage.

2 1970 Madan Mohan for film Dastak. The film had wonderful Ghazals sung by Lata Maneshkar.

3 1971 Jaidev for film Reshma Aur Shera. The film music was totally based on Indian ragas.

4 1972 SD Burman for Zindagi Zindagi. Most of this film songs were based on Bangla folk music.

1978 Jaidev for film Gaman. It had some good ghazals.

6 1981 Khayyam for  Umrao Jaan. Wonderful songs/ghazals sung by Asha Bhosle, who also received Nest female singer award.

1984 Jaidev for Ankahee. Do not have much details of this film’s music.

8   1987 Vanraj Bhatia for Tamas. No details available with me.

1990 Hridyanath Mangeshkar for film Lekin. Who can forget the song ‘Yara Sili Sili, Birha Ki Raat Ka Jalna sung by Lata Mangeshkar.

10  1998 Vishal Bhardwaj for Godmother. No details available with me.

11  1999 Ismail Barbar for film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Who can for get the songs like ‘ Nimbuda Nimbuda’ ‘ Dholi Taro Dhol Baaje’ ‘Chand Chupa Badal Mein’  and others.

12  2000 Anu Malik for Refugee. It had some great songs.

13  2003 Shankar Ehsaan Loy for film Kal Ho Na Ho, It had wonderful songs like Title song, Its time to disco and others.

14  2009  Amit Trivedi for Dev D.

15 2010 Vishal Bhardwaj for film Ishqiya. One song of this film became very popular ie ‘Dil To Bachcha hai Ji.

16 2017  AR Rahman for Mom.

17 2018 Sanjay Leela Bhansali for Padmavat . Wonderful songs in the film but song “Ghoomar ghoomar’ became very popular.

From the above list you will notice that many great composers like Shankar Jaikishan, Laxmikant Pyarelal, RD Burman never won the National award.

 

National Film Award for Best Lyricist

1 1970 Kaifi Azmi for song ‘ Aandhi Aaye Ya Toofan from Saat Hindustani.

1984 Vasant Dev for song ‘ Aandhiyara  Gaheraaya’ from Saransh.

3 1987 Gulzar for ‘ Mera Kuch Samman Tumhare Paas Pada Hai’ from Ijazzat.

1990 Gulzar for ‘ Yaara Sili Sili’ from  Lekin

1995 Amit Khanna for song ‘ Kuch Is Tarah’  from Bhairavi.

1996 Javed Akhtar for film Saaz. Song detail not available.

1997 Javed Akhtar for song ‘Sandese Aate Hain, Hamen Tadpate Hain’ fro Border.

1998 Javed Akhtar for song “Maati Re Maati Re’ from Godmother.

9 2000 Javed Akhtar for song ‘Panchchi Nadiya Pawan Ke Jhonke’ from Refugee.

10 2001 Javed Akhtar for ‘Radha Kaise Na jale’ from Lagaan.

11 2006 Swanand Kirkire for song ‘ Bande Me Tha Dum” from Lage Raho Munnabhai.

12 2007 Prasoon Joshi for song ‘ Tujhko Pata Hai Na Maa’ from Tare Zameen Par.

13 2009 Swanand Kirkire for song ‘ Behti Hawa Sa Tha Who’ from 2 Idiots.

14 2011 Amitabh Bhattacharya for song ‘ Agar Zidagi’ from I am.

15 2012 Prasoon Joshi for song ‘ Badho Maa’ from  Chitagong.

16 2015 Varun Grover for song ‘Moh Moh Ke Dhage’ from Dum Laga Ke Haisha.

From the above list you will notice that so many veteran and famous lyricists like Sahir Ludhianavi, Shailendra, Shakeel Badayuni, Anand Bakshi, Hasrat Jaipuri, Indeevar never won the National award.
