We all are aware that that Tulsi plant is available in many homes and generally it is kept outside the house either in courtyard or outside the balcony on the supports. Tusli is revered plant for Hindus, as it is used on most pooja sand ceremonies .It is also worshipped by Hindus and one day in a year,  special poojas are performed for Goddess Tulsi. However irrespective of religion Tulsi leaves are highly effective home remedy. It is becoming popular as an herb, even in western countries. Foreigners refer to it as Holy Basil and they even use it as an exotic herb in their cooking.

Medicinal Properties

It is indeed a potent herb with lots of properties, that can help cure few common ailments and also prevent few diseases. It is said that Tulsi protects our organs from chemical stress due to pollutants. It is also helpful in protecting us from physical stress as well. Tusli is used as a medicine for common cold and cough. It is also good in countering metabolic stress as it helps normalize blood glucose, blood pressure as well as lipid levels. Consumption of Tulsi is also said to bring in positive effects our mind and improve our memory functions. It seems Tulsi leaves also have anti-oxidant as well as anti depressant properties. It is used in many disinfectants, mouth washes and sanitisers as it also have anti microbial properties. t also help preserve food. Many Indian households use Tulsi leaves for protection from the evil effect of the  highly powerful cosmic rays of the Sun during the solar eclipse.

With all these qualities Ayurveda refers to Tulsi as the “Queen of herbs”,  “Mother medicine of nature”,” Elxir of life”, etc. It is indeed, a revered herb that seems to have some highly effective powers that can help cure humans of a range of diseases.

Tulsi For Treatments

It is used as cure for fever, as it has excellent germicidal, antibiotic, fungicidal and disinfecting properties. Fever is actually a way of the human body fighting against some of the infection, which could be bacterial, viral or some other such reason. Hence, Tulsi leaves are simply boiled in water, and the same decoction is consumed three to four times a day for helping cure ordinary fever.

Tulsi leaves are also highly effective in curing respiratory- related disorders like cold, cough, bronchitis, asthma, etc. This is mainly due to the components like camphene, eugenol and cineole that are  present in it. It also has a few minerals that  help ease the congestion, providing in such conditions. Along with all these, it is also rich in Vitamin C and thus, helps cure many lung disorders, including Tuberculosis. Tulsi leaves can also act as preventive medicine for cancer. It is, in fact, an excellent detoxifier and if consumed daily can help a person’s overall well being, through prevention of many ailments as well.

Since it helps reduce cholesterol, it also helps reduce heart ailments. It is also said that the Potassium levels in Tulsi leaves helps ease the tensed blood vessels, thus reducing the blood pressure an working as an anti stress factor. It  is highly aromatic and perfect as a mouth freshener, and also as an oral disinfectant. Few studies have shown that Tulsi may be used in preventing and treating oral cancer. It also prevents tooth decay and bad breath.

Tulsi also reduces the uric acid levels in the body and thus helps in preventing or easing the kidney diseases as well. It even protects your liver from damage. Just like Neem leaves, Tulsi leaves are used in bathwater for protection from skin disorders too. Tulsi leaves are also said to help prevent premature aging and help people remain vigorous. It boosts your immunity and enables you to stay fit, and thus, it appears that Tulsi leaves are indeed a very powerful and healing herb, that can benefit us in in different ways.
