In continuing with my last weekend blog about sad and soulful songs of Mohd Rafi, here is the next list of songs with their You Tube link. Songs are listed in random order.
1 This song is from 1966 film Guide, and the song is “ Din Dhal Jaye Par Raat Na Jaye, Tu To Na Aaye Teri Yaad Sataye”, song is written by Shailendra and composed by SD Burman. Experts of hindi film music consider this song in top 5 songs of Mohd Rafi. The way he has sung the song is clearly shows the sadness and pathos in his voice.
2 Next in the list are 2 songs from 1966 film Do Badan and songs are written by Shakeel Badayuni and composed by Ravi. Both these songsgive you the feeling of real sadness and while watching the film, one definitely feels pity for hero. Songs are picturised on Manoj Kumar. The first song is “Raha Gardishon Mein Hardam Mere Ishq Ka Sitara, Kabhi Dag Magai Kashti Kabhi Kho Gaya Kinara”
Second song is “Naseeb Mein Jiske Jo Likha Tha Who Teri Mehfil Mein Kaam Aaya, Kisike Hisse Mein Pyas Aaayi, Kisike Hisse Men Jaam Aaya”.
3 This song is from not very popular film Lootera of 1965. Song is written by Asad Bhopali and composed by Usha Khanna. The way Mohd Rafi has sung this song, clearly shows the sadness of seperation. It is picturised on Feroze Khan, and the song is “Hum Tumse Juda Ho Ke Mar Jayenge Ro Ro Ke”.
4 This song is from 1968 film Brahamchari, written by Hasrat Jaipuri and composed by Shankar Jaikishan, and picturised on Shammi Kapoor. The full song is sung at high or very high pitch. In haas been said that during composition of the song, Shammi Kapoor threw a challenge to Mohd Rafi that he should sing Mukhada and all the Antras without any pause in between. Rafiji said he will do the same, and he did it. After the recording was concluded, Mohd Rafi said to Shammi Kapoor, please do not challenge me like this, otherwise my voice will go and then who will sing your songs. The song is “Dil Ke Jharokhe Mein Tujhko Bitha Ke, Yaadon Ki Teri Main Dulhan Bana Ke, Rakhunga Main Dil Ke Paas , Mat Ho Meri Jaan Udas”.
5 This song is from 1970 film Khilona, written by Anand Bakshi and composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal, and picturised on Sanjeev Kumar. This song depicts the feling of sadness and helpness of hero who is mentally unstable and locked inside the room, and heroine says that she is leaving him. Song is “Khilona Jaankar Yum To Mera Dil Tod Jaate Ho, Mujhe Is Haal Mein Kis Ke Sahare Chod Jaate Ho”
6 This song is from 1970 film Mera Naam Joker. This song is based on Punjabi folk songs which are known as Heer, the lyrics of the song are traditional lyrics, composed by Shankar Jaikishan and picturised on Raj Kapoor. The song is not among the very popular songs of Mohd Rafi, as this song was later deleted from the film, I have included this song for the way he has sung this Heer, and the song is “ Sad Ke Heer Tujh Pe, Hum Fakeer Sad Ke”.
7 This song is from 1971 film Haathi Mere Saathi, written by Anand Bakshi and composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal, and picturised on Rajesh Khanna. By the time this film went into production Kishore Kumar had become voice of Rajesh Khanna. But when Kishore Kumar came for rehearsal before recording of this song, after one sitting with composers he refused saying that the justice to this song can only be done if Mohd Rafi sing this song, and he requested Mohd Rafi to sing the song and he only explained to Rajesh Khanna why Mohd Rafi has to sing this song, and the song is “Nafrat Ki Duniya Ko Chod Ke, Pyar Ki Duniya Mein Khush Rehna Mere Yaar”.
8 This song is from 1974 film Hawas, written by Sawan Kumar Tak and composed by Usha Khanna, and picturised on Anil Dhawan. Mohd Rafi has sung this song in a very simple way but it still seems a very special song. The song is “Teri Galiyin Mein Na Rakhen Ge Kadam Aaj Ke Baad, Tere Milne Ko Na Aayen Ge Sanam Aaj Ke Baad”.
Hopefully next week I should be able to conclude this series.
