Tuesday Brief

Since last few weeks Mumbi Police in news. It first satrted with finding of explosive loaded SUV near Mukesh Ambani’s residence in south Mumbai and subsequent death of the businessmen who owned the SUV. After the death the wife of deceased gave a statement to press that the said SUV was being used by Police Officer Sachi Vaze and then the hell broke loose. There was wide spread speculation how the junior rank police officer’s involvement in the case, unless there is some top police officer or top politician is involved. The media and opppsition parties went after govt. and the case was handed over to the state Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS). but no body was happy the way ATS was going on with investigations. Finally central govt handed the case to National Investigation Agency (NIA). When NIA started the investigation it clearlr came out about the involvement og Sachin Vaze. He was questioned and subsequently arrested, and then the news came out the top politicians of ruling alliance MVA had backed  Sachin Vaze, and they were also responsible for even reinstating Sachin Vaze aafter 17 years of suspension.

The opposition parties and press had a field day in criticising the govt and demanded resignation of Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.Looking into all this state govt transfered few of the top police officers including Commissioner of Police Parambir Singh to some obscure position as Director of Home Guards.

The cop’s explosive letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackarey raising allegations against Deshmukh, which found its way to the press on Saturday has put the Maha Vikas Agadi government in a spot. Singh has submitted in the petition that Home Minister Anil Deshmukh had been holding  meetings in February, 2021 at his residence with police officers including Sachin Vaze of Crime Intelligence Unit, Mumbai and Shri Sanjay Patil, ACP Social Service Branch, Mumbai, bypassing their seniors and had instructed them that he had a target to accumulate Rs. 100 crores every month and had directed to collect the same.
This was like a bomb and govt has no reply to the same except to deny the allegations, but in general it was felt all over that there is truth in allegaions.

What can be considered as master stroke, Paramvir Singh files a petition in Supreme Court regarding his illegal transfer. The details regarding the petitions are given below:

Former Mumbai police commissioner Parambir Singh on Monday filed a petition before the Supreme Court about his transfer to Home Guard Department. He sought direction for immediate “unbiased, uninfluenced, impartial and fair” CBI probe into alleged corrupt malpractices of Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh.

In his petition, Singh said that his transfer was done in an “arbitrary and illegal” manner “without the completion of the minimum fixed tenure of two years”.

{“The said transfer was maliciously effected purportedly under Section 22N(2) of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951 with the reason that the transfer was necessitated by “administrative exigencies”. It is settled law that the orders have to stand on the reasons contained in the same and no reasons can be supplemented later,” the former top cop said in the petition.

The transfer is smeared with malice, and is solely based on conjectures, surmises and pure speculation, the petition further said.

Singh, a 1988 batch IPS officer, was last week transferred from the post of Mumbai police commissioner in the midst of a probe by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into the recovery of an explosives-laden SUV which was found parked outside the south Mumbai residence of industrialist Mukesh Ambani on February 25.}

Singh alleged that Anil Deshmukh had been interfering in various investigations and was even instructing the police officers to conduct the sane in particular manner.

Reacting to his transfer, Deshmukh said that Singh was removed because some “serious lapses” surfaced in the police probe in the Ambani bomb scare case.

But Singh hit back with a letter to chief minister Uddhav Thackeray which has since shaken the political field in Maharashtra. Singh claimed in the letter that Deshmukh asked arrested cop Sachin Vaze to extort money to the tune of Rs100 crore per month from various establishments in Mumbai like hotels and bars.

While the constituents of the ruling Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) have stood behind Deshmukh, meetings are being held by Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress to discuss how to resolve the crisis.

Let us wait for SC order in this matter.
