Tuesday Brief

The count of  people affected with corona virus Covid 19 in India is rapidly increasing, and it is all because of one group called Tablighi Markaz  who did not follow the timely instructions of the govt. As per the latest reports more than 25,000 people are put in quarantine, and this includes people of Tablighi Markaz and  others who must have come in contact with them, and out of  4400 affected persons in India, the Tablighi Markaz count is around 1600. Still many people from Tablighi Markaz are hiding in various places in India. It was highly irresponsible behaviour by this group.

So moving away from the above topic, I am back with my health topic, and today’s topic is about diet. Friends have you ever heard about Rainbow Diet ? Most of us are  unaware about this diet plan, so let us see what is Rainbow diet :

The colour spectrum of rainbow is generally described as VIBGYOR, where each letter defines the name of the colour.. This diet plan tell you to include the colours of fruit and vegetables into your diet. The natural products that we get have some great colours, and each  comes with some benefits. You have the violet, green , yellow, orange, red and lot more in the daily fresh produce that we use at home.

Generally all of us are having our preferences and likes and dislikes, but the nutritionists  always insist that we need to have rainbow every day. This is because we derive significant benefits from these natural coloured substances, which also makes up for a variety in our healthy and balanced diet. These coloured fruits and vegetables contain lot of essential antioxidants, minerals and vitamins. Also the pythochemicals ( any biologically active compounds) in these things have great healing powers that can help in building the immunity.

The Greens : The green fruits and vegetables like the spinach, lettuce, kiwi fruit, cucumber, green apples, broccoli, green grapes, pears etc boosts our immunity, help detoxify our body and energises us to keep on going. These are rich in isothiocyanates (sulphur containing pythochemicals), lutein (it is naturally occurring cartenoids), isoflavones ( a crystalline compound whose derivatives occur in many plants), and also Vitamins B, C and K etc. These are essential for maintaining our blood, eye and bone health. They also contain anti oxidants that build our immunity and protects in many diseases. These also helps in digestive system.

The Blue/Violet/Purple :  The brinjals, purple cabbage, purple grapes, blueberries and figs etc, contain Phytonutrients( a substance found in certain plants which is believed to be beneficial to human health and help in preventing certain diseases), including anthocyanins and resveratrol ( a compound found in certain plants that has anti oxidant properties) in rich quantities and these helps in anti ageing and anti cancer foods. These foods are also highly anti oxidant and help in bodily repair as well. They also boost your memory power and protect from Alzheimer’s disease and even supports the body fight against inflammation.

The Orange/Yellow : We all love citrus fruits like oranges and lemons, the bright orange carrots, papayas,  mangoes,  pineapple for their wonderful looks and flavours. However, they also contain lots of vitamin C, anti oxidants and carotenoids (class of mainly yellow, orange or red fat soluble pigments), which promote eye health and cell growth. A kind of carotenoid called beta carotene, stored in the liver later gets converted into vitamin A and boost immunity. The citrus fruits also help to improve the blood flow in the body, can prevent strokes, and also protect you from harmful effects ot the sun  and keep your joints healthy.

The Red :  The Red  group consists of apples, bell peppers, watermelons, strawberries, tomatoes, cherries, pomegranates and beets. They contain powerful nutrients that are very powerful to help your body fight diseases like cancer. They contain carotenoids like lycopene and astaxanthin, and phytochemicals like lycopene and ellagic acid. Few of these things when taken in natural form, have been known to prevent or even reverse prostate and esophageal cancer. They also reduce the risk of diabetes, heart disease and stroke, and even improve your skin health.

Along with above, one may include the white and brown fruits and vegetables as well, like cauliflower, garlic, mushrooms, potatoes, ripe bananas, onion , radish etc, they have significant benefits. They are too rich in anti oxidants, and few even contain anti cancer properties. They are also good for bone health, can lower the cholesterol, and even balance your harmones.

In the end, it is recommended that get colourful with your diet and make it bright like rainbow and stay healthy.
