In this weekend blog, I am continuing with where I left last weekend on Filmfare awards’ some interesting incidents and controversies.
- When awards for year 1996 movies were being presented in 1997- an interesting incident happened – as this program was held in the open area, suddenly when Karishma Kapoor was accepting her award for best actress in Raja Hindustani, suddenly the venue went in complete darkness, as police personnel shut off the power supply. The reason given was , the organisers did not have permission to hold the event after 10 pm. This rule is still prevalent.
- During the same it was for the first time Filmfare awarded Aamir Khan as best actor award, but he was not present, as he had earlier declared that he will not attend any award function. Although Rekha played negative character in Khiladiyon Ke Khiladi, she was awarded best supporting actress trophy instead award for best villain.
- Similar thing had happened earlier, Although Shah Rukh Khan had negative role he was given best actor award for Baazigar (1993), where as for his negative role in movie Anjaam (1994), he was given best villain award. Similarly Kajol for Gupt (1997) was given best villain award, although she was leading actress of that film. It has been always whims and fancies of the panel who chooses the winners in each category.

- From the year 2008, awards for best comedian and villain were withdrawn, and they were merged with supporting category.

In the same year people were shocked when the best supporting actress award was given to Kareena Kapoor for her role in We are family, a film which was total flop and most of cinegoers had not seen this film.
