Tuesday Brief

Friends, you all must be aware about the incident when Arnab Goswami, Editor in Chief of Republic TV, was attacked by two youth congress workers, when he was returning with his wife after work from  his studio to his residence, late in the night. The attack on him and his wife was mainly due to he kept on asking Sonia Gandhi’s silence on the lynching of two Hindu monks at Palghar (Near Mumbai in Maharashtra). Because a year back when some people from minority community were lynched, then Sonia Gandhi went on to say India has become lynchistan, but she did not care to utter a single word on lynching incident at Plaghar. Earlier Sonia Gandhi  had criticised about the law and order of the states where lynching had happened. Arnab asked a question, what she has to say about the law and order in Maharashtra, where her party is a coalition partner in govt with Shiv Sena & NCP. When after the attack on him, he went on to lodge the FIR in police station,  the officer in police station dilly dallied to register a FIR. It took almost 9 hours, before Arnab’s FIR was registered that too with diluted charges and no mention of the assailants were from congress party. On the very next day Congress workers in various congress ruled states filed a FIR against Arnab, and the charges in majority of FIRs were that Arnab has defamed our leader Sonia Gandhi. Immediately next day Arnab’s lawyer approached Supreme Court, on the various FIRs filed against Arnab across the country. In the interim order SC directed that majority of the FIRs have same charges, hence only one FIR should be heard and directed that Arnab can not be arrested for next 3 weeks. SC also directed the Police Commissioner of Mumbai to look into the matter.

So yesterday Arnab was called for interrogation, at the police station where his FIR is registered. The Police officers questioned him for almost 12 hours non stop, as if he is the culprit. At the same time two attackers were released on bail on Rs 50,000 bond. My only question is Congress leaders are at liberty to call other political leaders by any name. The classical example is-them calling PM Chor Hai, Modi is ‘ Maut Ka Saudagar’ and many more such words -is OK , but when someone else calls congress leader Sonia Gandhi  by even her original name, is  a defamation. Now Arnab Goswamy is a Journalist, and it is his duty to ask question, but Congress President Sonia Gandhi only speaks when it suits her, she is not used to answer any questions when someone ask for her accountability. Kapil Sibal, the congress leader and advocate, had the guts to say that how can a journalist defame Sonia Gandhi, and this remark of him was rebutted by the Hon SC judges.

Now simple question is when freedom of expression is available to politicians, and the same is also available to the journalists, then why this defamation case.

So let us wait and watch, for further development on this issue.

Now coming to health related topic of today:

For decades WALKING has been accepted as a highly beneficial form of exercise. Many doctors advise their patients to get their daily dose of exercise through walking, if not any other form of exercise. A few studies have even claimed that walking actually can improve the lifespan of a person.

The benefits of walking are-

  • Helps maintain body weight (helps reduce if over weight)
  • Helps with heart health as it reduces bad cholesterol, and helps increase good cholesterol.
  • Relief from anxiety and stress.
  • Improved sleep, mood and stamina.
  • Keeps your mental faculties alert.
  • Can help in keeping many ageing related issues at bay.

There are many more benefits of walking, and it is said that a person  should walk 10,000 steps a day for reaping all these benefits.

How much a senior person should walk-

Walking is counted as moderate aerobic activity, and as per experts a senior person should walk at least 150 minutes in a week. Unless you have prohibited by your doctor not to walk for any specific reasons, walking is something which anyone can start at any age without any harmful affects. Friends for information, I started walking, as exercise, at the age of 47, till today I walk minimum 30 to 40 minutes daily.

It is very important to  wear comfortable clothes and suitable shoes for walking.  It can be done in the morning or in the evening,  depending on your convenience.

How fast one should walk-

It is expected that initially a person should start slowly and slowly build the pace, and then maintain the pace. A brisk walk is what is expected, mostly, to provide all the suggested benefits. While doing brisk walk, one should ensure the to and fro movements of hands.

Walk should be normally faster than stroll, but slower than the jog. You should walk at a pace so that you are not becoming breathless. There are many smart phone apps, which tells your speed etc.

There are ways to motivate yourself into walking everyday. You could use as an excuse to meet friends. Most areas now have walking tracks or the parks, where one can do walking/ The big housing complexes, generally also have walking track. One can set own target, and can celebrate when you achieve the same. The targets could be in terms of distances or number of steps or time taken to cover a particular distance.

In the end friends, HAPPY WALKING.

Waiting for your feed backs/comments/views.
