1 It seems that state  of Maharashtra and its capital city Mumbai have started having some relief from Covid 19 Pandemic. Yesterday Maharashtra reported 4930 cases with Mumbai contributing only 724 cases. At the peak level Mumbai was contributing almost one third of cases in Maharashtra which has now come down to 15%. The total death were 95 (in Mumbai only 9). This is the first time since 1st May 2020 that Mumbai’s death figure is in single digit.. The tally of total number of cases In Maharashtra is about 18.29 lakh, in that Mumbai has contributed 2.84 lakh. The total death tally is Maharashtra 47,246, out of this Mumbai contributed 10,893.  The fatality rate of Mumbai which reached its peak in June at 8.6%  has comes down to 2% in November. Overall fatality figure is still high @ 3.8%, as compared to Maharashtra state’s fatality rate of 2.58%. Lets hope this downward trend continues  and Covid 19 is wiped out  in few months.

2 Many home and health hacks use common items from our daily life. However, really we do not know about the same unless we see some one do it or someone tells us about it. So, here are few hacks which uses BAKING SODA.

Health Hacks using Baking Soda- here are few hacks:

  • Are you aware that in earlier days people used use it as tooth paste? It cab used as whitening agent for teeth, by just dipping your brush in it, and then brushing your teeth with it, it even keeps your breath fresh.
  • It removes body odour, and one can use it as deodorant, by lightly patting under one’s arms to keep odour away.
  • Use it as a mouthwash. Take one spoonful of baking soda in a glass of water. Rinse your mouth with the same.
  • Itchy insect bites like that of mosquito can be eased by using baking soda paste.
  • It can be used as a dry shampoo to get rid of oiliness in the hair, in case you do not have time to wash the hair.
  • It can be used also as wet shampoo, by combining with apple cider.
  • It can be used as antacid to relieve upset stomach, indigestion, heartburn etc.

Deodorant – It can be used as deodorant to get rid of any odor in the house. Here are few hacks

  • Use it along with diffuser and essential oil as an air freshener, by adding pinch of it the water & oil mixture.
  • You could dry clean your rugs using baking soda by sprinkling on carpet/rugs and leaving it over night. The next day you could vacuum clean the same for freshness. By this way even soft toys can be cleaned also.
  • A spoonful of baking soda can be placed in a small container in the fridge to keep it odour free. This method can be used in wardrobes instead of chemical mothballs In this case you may add bit of any preferred refreshing oil in the container.
  • Sprinkle baking soda in the toilet and leave it for a while before cleaning it out for fresh and clean toilet .

Cleaning Agent– It has been used as a cleaning agent for long. One could try some of these hacks

  • Use this to unclog the kitchen sink. Periodically pour a combination of baking soda with water or even vinegar down the drain to keep it free flowing.
  • It’s solution can be used to clean out the build ups on comb and brushes. Just keep them dipped in solution for about half an hour and then you can easily clean them out.
  • It can be also used to shine your silverware at home. A paste of baking soda and water can be applied on the articles to clean and scrubbed with a clean cloth and then wiped dry.
  • You could even remove stubborn stains in kitchen sink or counter, in microwave oven. By using mixture of water and baking soda. It can clean even stains from your wall, like if kids have drawn or painted on them.
  • Use a baking soda solution to wash the fruits and vegetables to get rid of any pesticide on them.

It  has many other uses  like- you could add pinch of baking soda to the vase to keep flowers fresh for longer duration: Sprinkle a mixture baking soda on ants and it works as pesticide.
