Friends, today there is no news which is worth commenting as there is lull in political activities in the country except for-firstly all the opposition parties have extended their support to today’s Bharat Bandh which has been called by protesting farmers against new farm bills and secondly Indian Pharmaceutical companies have also started asking permission to try out their Covid vaccine on patients.
According to survey done few year earlier, there are about 55 million in the world who are suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. In , India the count of such people are about 1.7 million, and it is expected that by 2050, this count will reach 5 million. So, it is evident that we are dealing with a silent, yet painful condition that is not getting the importance that it should get. As we all know it is a disease, which is part of ageing process. People start losing their memory or their capability of performing day to day actions. It is become essential for caregivers, to ensure the safety of these people as they may end up wandering without knowing it, and worse, may not be able to get home, or remember any names or contact numbers. However scientists worldwide are doing continuous research on this, and recently one of the study has suggested the meditation done daily may help in alleviating the signs and symptoms of dementia.
The study conducted on people with early Alzheimer found that daily short dose of meditation helps reduce blood pressure, and stress, while improving sleep, memory and mood, not just in patients, but also their caregivers. This give ray of hope to many affected patients. As we all know, meditation has lot of benefits for mental as well physical well being of people, and specially senior citizens. This is also something which can be done by anyone, anytime and needs no specific training or tools. Meditation is crucial aspect of yoga. One can easily download meditation apps and start practicing. Even immobile can easily do meditation, and hence there is no excuse for not doing it, when the benefits are so high.
The other tips one may follow to try and keep this dreaded disease at bay, are
- Eating mindfully that the body gains maximum benefits out of what we eat. Follow a healthy and balanced diet with fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grain and cereals, the right meat and sea food.
- One should also be mindful about the body weight and not gget obese.
- The brain should be kept as active as possible with mind games, puzzles, constant learning of new skills etc. This ensures that brain sells are in nonstop action and will remain healthy, and not allow any build up which ultimately leads to Alzheimer’s disease..
- Constant health checkups to monitor all vital health parameters like sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure etc and timely treatment, helps in remaining healthy. This is more so if there is any family history of this disease. Also females are at more risk than men and should take special care, to keep themselves active.
One of the significant factor leading to Alzheimer’s is, of course age. However, this is something that can not be possibly avoided. Hence, the next best step would be to be aware of the disease, follow the tips to prevent its occurrence and watch out early signs and symptoms like slow decline in memory and cognitive capabilities.
