Seniors and Falls

1 Shoe Grooves and Traction

As footwear ages, the grooves that provide traction wear down, diminishing their ability to grip various surfaces. Ensuring well-lit living spaces and using nightlights in bedrooms and hallways can further assist seniors in navigating their surroundings safely, especially during nighttime.

3 Age-Related Balance Changes

Maintaining balance is a complex process that involves various sensory and motor functions. As we age, the body undergoes changes that can affect balance, including muscle loss, joint stiffness, and a decline in the sense of body position. These factors make seniors more susceptible to stumbling and falling, even in seemingly stable environments. To address this, engaging in regular exercises that focus on improving strength, flexibility, and balance is crucial. By addressing issues such as shoe grooves, vision changes, balance issues, medication side effects, and environmental factors, we can take proactive steps to create a safer living environment for seniors. Priortising regular check-ups, maintaining on active lifestyle, and making necessary modifications to living spaces are essential measures in safeguarding the well-being of seniors.
