Brain Chip

Yesterday on the internet there was one news which caught my attention, which is there in today’s newspaper also, was that of “ Elon Mask, the billionaire founder of the neurotechnology company Neuralink has said that the first human received an implant from a brain chip start-up and is recovering well. Initial results show promising neuron spike detection, a day after the chip which was implanted on 29th January 2024”. Spikes are activity by neurons, which are cells that use electrical and chemical signals to send information around the brain to the body. The credit for creating first prototype of BRAIN CHIP is given to Naweed I Syed, a Pakistani-born Canadian neuro-scientist. He is the first scientist to connect brain cells to a silicon chip, creating the world’s first neurochip. If you go back into history, in 1924 Berger was the first to record brain activity by EEG. Actors Who Regretted

In today’s weekend blog, I am back on Bollywood. There are many actors who have made mistake in choosing the films.  But there are very few of them, who publicly declared that they were wrong in selecting these roles and films and regretted doing the same. Here are a few actors, who in the recent past regretted: 1 Abhay Deol- Aisha Not just us, but Abhay Deol also felt that Aisha was less about storytelling and more about clothes. In one of the interviews, he said “The film had nothing to do with Jane Austen’s Emma as it was reported. I realized the film was more about clothes than actual acting. I even read reviews of the movie that praised clothes.” 2 Saif Ali Khan –Humshakals No one denies that Humshakals was an extremely regressive film. Saif Ali Khan himself said that ‘it was a mistake’. He further added that…

Historical Points to Ponder

In today’s blog, I am writing about a few points the answers for which the people like me who were born after independence, are still searching for because we were not taught about these in any history books during our schooling days.  1 First is about an Emperor of ancient India: His name is preceded by the word Great or Mahan in Hindi by historians. The Emperor whose State Symbol ‘Ashok Chakra’ is on our national flag. The Emperor whose State Symbol four-faced lion has become our national emblem, with the inscription of Satyamave Jayate’. The Emperor on whose name the Indian army gives Bravery Awards. The Emperor ruled over United India (which included modern-day Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan) for the longest time. The Emperor, none could match his valour, wisdom etc, before him and after him. The reign of the Emperor is considered as the most golden period…

Seniors and Falls

As we age, our bodies undergo numerous changes, and one concern that becomes increasingly prevalent is the risk of falls. While we often associate falls with obvious causes like slippery surfaces or poor lighting, there are lesser-known facts that contribute to this risk, especially for senior people. In today’s blog, I am writing about these lesser-known facts which also contribute to falls. 1 Shoe Grooves and Traction Have you ever considered the impact of the grooves on your footwear? Often overlooked, the wear and tear on the soles of our footwear plays a crucial role in maintaining stability. As footwear ages, the grooves that provide traction wear down, diminishing their ability to grip various surfaces. For seniors especially, this compromised shoe traction can significantly increase the likelihood of slips and falls, especially on slippery and uneven terrain. To mitigate this task, regularly inspect your footwear and replace them if treads…

22nd January 2024

Yesterday, 22nd January 2024 was the most memorable day for most Hindus across the world, as it was the occasion when the consecration of the Ram Temple was performed by Prime Minister Narendra  Modi with full devotion. Now you will be wondering why I have written most of the Hindus instead of all the Hindus because there are certain sections of Hindus who are not happy with this consecration. These Hindus are mostly with leftist ideology, Hindus who are followers of DMK or Dravidian movement of the Southern part of  India, and Hindus who followed the ideology propagated by the scion of the Nehru/Gandhi family of the Congress party. The restoration of the statue of Ram Lalla in the new Ram Temple built at Ayodhya was a historic event in modern Indian history. The original Ram Mandir was destroyed by the Mughal emperor Babur and the Babri Masjid was built…

Aviation Safety

For the last few days due to foggy conditions in the northern part of India, the flight schedules have gone haywire. Along with that, the news of various airlines flouting safety norms is also surfacing, especially about the airlines allowing pilots to fly aircraft that have not been cleared for operating in poor visibility conditions at the airport during landing and takeoff. In practice and reality, most commercial planes are capable of landing in thick fog, but it can depend on the type of aircraft and the facilities associated with the runway at the airport. The low-visibility landings must use the aircraft’s automated systems that interact with the airport’s instrument landing system. This is the array of metal poles at the end of a runway that generates a radio beam for aircraft to follow. Pilots who are CAT-II compliant are allowed to land when visibility is from 25—550 meters. CAT-III…
