RTI and Political Parties

The Supreme Court (SC) is hearing a petition that the political parties should be brought under the Right To Information (RTI) Act, which is primarily being opposed by the political parties. Let us see how this stage has reached, where political parties are worried they are brought under RTI. India is a democratic nation, and there has been always a feud between the openness of a democratic nation and the preservation of secrecy so as to maintain trust in the government. Whereas transparency is seen as an aspect of fairness to the citizens of the country. Transparency makes citizens aware of the working of the government and its functioning. Voices of bringing political parties under the RTI Act, of 2005 have been raised to which government has been reluctant to address the issue at large. The RTI Act, of 2005 was passed by Parliament that regulates the policy of citizen’s…

INDIA Alliance-2024 Elections-2

Today  I am writing part 2 of my yesterday’s blog INDIA Alliance-2024 Elections. The state/UT wise various party’s   position in Lok Sabha after the 2019 elections: 13 Telengana– Total No. of seats 17. Party position in 2019, Congress-3, BJP-4, Telangana Rashtriya Samiti (TRS)-9, AIMIM-1. Congress and TRS are part of the INDIA alliance, and BJP is also doing quite well in this state after 2019. But as per the present scenario, it looks like BJP may retain its tally. So in the end it might be the status quo. 14 Assam– Total No. of seats- 14. Party position in 2019, Congress-3, BJP-9, Ind-1, AIUDF-1. It does not look like the INDIA alliance will gain any seats other than what they have. There is a high possibility of the BJP might improve its position. 15 Jharkhand– Total No. of seats- 14. Party position in 2019, Congress-1, BJP-11, JMM-1, AJSU-1. Although Congress…

INDIA Alliance-2024 Elections

Last week on 19th July 2023, I wrote a blog on the Opposition Parties alliance called INDIA. In that blog, I wrote about, if this alliance has to dislodge PM Modi’s government, then the Congress party has to play a leading role, as it is the only pan-Indian political party in this alliance, and they should try to win160+ seats with TMC and DMK should increase their tally from 70 (23+24) to at least 70 seats, and the balance should come from smaller parties. Let us go state-wise to see the present position of the parties of this alliance in the Lok Sabha (LS), and whether can they increase their tally to reach the magic figure of 272 seats for the majority in the LS: 1 Uttar Pradesh (UP)- No. of seats in LS-80. Position in 2019- BJP-62, BSP-10, SP-5, Congress-1, and others -2. In the 2019 election, there was…

A variety of mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and many more foods that you can eat, and there are others that you should avoid. What to Eat? Eat only fresh cooked foods at home. Opposition Alliance

26 Indian opposition political parties have formed an alliance to take on PM Modi’s party BJP in the general election due in 2024. This opposition’s coalition will be called INDIA, an acronym for Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance. The leaders from these 26 political parties met in Bengaluru on the 17th and 18th of July 2023. The leaders discussed issues such as seat sharing-how many seats each party will contest-and common program for the next general election. But taking on Mr. Modi’s  BJP- which won more than 300 seats in 543 member Lok Sabha in 2019-will be a formidable challenge even for a mostly united opposition. Even though it has a mixed record in recent state elections, the BJP still governs 15 states (India has 28 states and 8 Union Territories) either by itself or as part of the coalition. Its biggest strength in a national election is the popularity…

Ageing- Taste Change

Taste is a very complex phenomenon. We do not experience sensation through a single sense (as we would when we see something using our sense of sight, for example). Still, rather it is made up of five senses working together to allow us to appreciate and enjoy food and drink. An initial visual inspection of food indicates if we would consider consuming it. Then, when eating, smell and flavour combine to us to perceive a taste. Meanwhile, the mix of ingredients, texture and temperature can further impact our experience. What this means actually is that losing of any our senses, particularly smell or taste, can reduce our enjoyment of eating food. Think of when you had a cold or your nose was blocked, and how the food-eating experience is different  then. It is likely that the temporary loss of smell changed the way you tasted the food, lowered your appetite,…

Art of SEWA

The Art of Sewa –Upgrading from Taker to Giver The rat race of survival keeps us busy all our lives. We generally spend our energy and time with the sole aim of being good providers for our families during our working days. In the end, we all dream of retiring to a peaceful life where we are free to do what we choose. But this dream turns sour, and suddenly we find that we have so much time at our disposal and do not know how to use the same. When we were working there was a routine and lots of work, but after retirement, we feel lost and disoriented. Now is the time for introspection. You will find that we over a period of time have forgotten the  Art of ‘giving’ and are busy only ‘Taking’. Actually, nature has designed a cyclic food chain that rests on interdependence, mutuality,…
