EUTHANASIA, is the practice of intentionally ending a life to eliminate pain and suffering. Different countries have different euthanasia laws. In India, Section 309 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) deals with the attempt to commit suicide, and Section 306 deals with the abetment of suicide-both actions punishable. Only those who are brain-dead can be taken off life support with the help of family members. Earlier, in Indian law euthanasia was not permitted. Since March 2018, passive euthanasia is legal in India under strict guidelines. Patients must consent through a living will, and must be either terminally ill or in a vegetative state. On 9th March 2018, the Supreme Court of India (SC) legalized passive euthanasia by means of the withdrawal of life support to patients in a permanent vegetative state. This decision was made as part of the verdict in a case involving Aruna Shanbaug, who had been in…

Then and Now
You must have heard people saying that ‘everything was better back then’, the grass was greener, and it was much easier to live. A nostalgic feeling is good, but present times can also be great. We are living in a world where constant technological progress, positively affects both us and nature. Here are some of the positive changes that happened recently or that are happening right now: 1 Space tourism is closer than ever As per the experts, the space tourism market is going to reach $3 billion by the year 2030. A few companies are competing for the right to send tourists into orbit, and Elon Musk’s company Space X, is among them. Who knows, maybe even an ordinary person will be able to fly to the moon for the weekend in the next 10/12 years. 2 Technology is being developed that will level out our brain The project…
What Not To Do
Class is more than just eating in fancy restaurants, or wearing designer outfits, anyone can do that. Class is that simply can’t be bought, it is something someone has to truly embody. Class is about people’s behavior and how they carry themselves. While there are many things that classy people do-such as showing respect to others, as well as being confident in themselves-there are as many things they never do. Often, it is simply avoiding certain behaviours that elevate a person’s personality and catches the attention of others. Here are a few things that Classy people never do : 1 Think they’re better than others When some people reach a certain level of wealth, their egos tend to inflate as well. They developed the habit of always saying “ Do you know who I am?” But truly classy people are not like that. Even if they have lots of money…
Compliment or Insult
Friends, most of the time giving compliments is harmless and, indeed it boosts the recipient’s mood. But certain compliments can have implications that are far from complimentary. If some comment makes another person feel uncomfortable, or even perpetuates a racial or gender stereotype, then that compliment is now insulting. There are certain things you should think twice before you say- no matter how good is your intention. Here are some COMPLIMENTS, which may turn into INSULTS: 1 Hey, you are on time When you compliment someone that he/she has come on time, you think you are rewarding good behavior. But your compliment may have the opposite effect, which is ‘you are just pointing out lateness is his/her normal routine’. 2 Your new hairstyle makes you look so much younger People love getting compliments on a new look but when you add on anything extra you run the risk of pointing…

Remote Voting Machines
In the last few weeks, there has been news appearing in print and electronic media regarding The Election commission of India (ECI) has developed prototype for a Multi-Constituency Remote Voting Machine (RVM) and soon they will demonstrate the working in the meeting where representatives of all political parties will be present. As per ECI this is being done, amid concerns over migration-based disenfranchisement, to boost voter turnout and strengthen India’s democratic process. The problem of migration-based disenfranchisement: While registered voters do not end up voting for a variety of reasons, domestic migration is driven by marriage, natural disasters, employment, etc. As per the 2011 census, there are nearly 45.36 Cr migrants in India (both intra and interstate)-ie nearly 37% of the country’s population. These migrants are unable to vote, denying a large chunk of the population its franchise. The ECI had formed a committee, which recommended (in 2016) internet voting,…

The hill town of Joshimath which is on the way to Badrinath dham, situated in the state of Uttarakhand is in the news recently, as roads and homes started developing cracks. According to experts, these cracks are mostly as a result of the frantic infrastructure development taking place in such a delicate ecosystem of the Himalayan region, and also climate change is a force multiplier. Experts are of the opinion that hydroelectric initiatives and construction of tunnels near Joshimath are creating irreparable harm in the region, and this is like a reminder to government that their actions are one of the main reasons for the cause of the damages happening in the region. There are number of areas in the Joshimath town of Chamoli district situated at an altitude of about 6150 feet are sinking day by day due to both natural calamities and human-induced causes. Demonetisation-SC
On 8th November 2016, PM Modi announced the DEMONETISATION of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes and advised all citizens to exchange these notes with new currency notes by 31 December 2016. There was too much noise by the opposition parties regarding this move, and the Congress party said it was not as per the law, and this was their main agenda in the campaign against PM Modi during the 2019 general elections. There were many petitions filed in various courts by many NGOs, political parties, and even the general public against demonetisation. In the end, all these petitions landed in the Supreme Court, and a bench consisting of five judges was constituted by the SC, which heard the matter. Yesterday SC announced their verdict in this case: The Supreme Court (SC) upheld the validity of the Central government’s 8th November notification to demonetize the currency notes of Rs…
