Controversial CM

Arvind Kejriwal recently resigned as Delhi’s CM after he got bail from the Supreme Court (SC) in the Delhi Liquor Excise Scam case. He was in prison for about 6 months, but he did not resign during that period, but while giving bail the SC put a condition that he could not go to his office, sign any file, and perform daily CM functions. What was Kejriwal’s stand while resigning, that he will go back to the people and people will vote him back as non-corrupt person in the next state assembly elections? The order of SC, means that the judiciary has found some substance in corruption charges against him, and that’s why the judiciary has put the conditions while giving him bail. Arvind Kejriwal is one politician, who will say one thing today, and tomorrow he will the opposite of the same. There are numerous examples, where he has…

Draft guidelines-Passive Euthanasia

In 2022 and 2023, I wrote blogs on the topic of Euthanasia, and the present government governments regulations. A few days back, the government issued a draft titled “ Guidelines for Withdrawal of Life Support on Terminally Ill Patients (Passive Euthanasia)”. The draft stated ‘ A considered decision in a patient’s best interests, to stop or discontinue ongoing life support in a terminally ill disease that is no longer likely to benefit the patient or is likely to harm in terms of causing suffering and loss of dignity. As per the draft guidelines, the withdrawal  of life support includes four conditions: 1 The individual must be declared brainstem dead as per THOA ( Transplantation of Human Organ Act). 2 Medical prognostication must indicate that the patient’s condition is advanced and unlikely to benefit  from aggressive therapeutic interventions. 3 The patient or surrogate must document an informed refusal, following prognostic awareness,…

Karnataka- MUDA Scam

One news item that caught my attention today was The Karnataka High Court yesterday (24/9/24) dismissing  Karnataka CM Siddaramiah’s petition in the alleged Mysuru Urban Development  Authority (MUDA) site allocation scam. Siddaramiah had challenged the Governor’s sanction for his prosecution in the alleged scam. The high-profile case pertains to allegations that compensatory sites were allotted to BM Parvathi, wife of Siddaramiah, in an upmarket area in Mysuru. The sites reportedly had higher property value compared with the location of her land that was acquired by the MUDA. The plots were allotted to Parvathi by MUDA under 50:50 ratio scheme in lieu of 3.16 acres of her land. At that place MUDA had developed a residential layout. The timeline of the MUDA site allotment case: Originally the land (3.16 acres) belonged to a person named Ninga in Kesere village of Mysuru district. In the family settlement , Ninga’s second son became…

Tirupati Laddu Prasadam

Since last Wednesday, one news item that has been all over print and in visual media has been about the  Laddu Prasadam controversy at Tirupati Balaji temple. Amid growing concerns from devotees about the quality of Ghee used in preparing Laddu prasadam, the Tirumala Tirupati Devastahanams (TTD) has restored the sanctity of the sacred offering. On last Friday, TTD had confirmed that sub-standard ghee and traces of lard found in samples tested for quality, validating claims of made earlier by Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu. The Ghee sample tested at Gujarat based laboratory of  National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), the test report of the same confirmed the presence of ‘beef tallow’, ‘lard’ and ‘fish oil’ in the sample. The sample was received by lab on 9th July and report of the same was dated 16th July 2024. Present Andhra CM Naidu has made serious allegations that the earlier government led by…

Smart Stethoscope

Friends, imagine if heart failure can be detected early on, through a routine check-up at the doctor’s clinic instead of ECGs and other tests at a later stage. That too through an instrument with whom we are familiar with stethoscope.  A SMART STETHOSCOPE is a medical device that could screen the heart failure in primary care. Here the technology used is Artificial Intelligence (AI) that could accurately identify people with this disease. Heart failure means that the heart is too weak to pump sufficient blood around the body. Currently, the condition is usually diagnosed in the hospital. In the case of Smart Stethoscope, the doctors use a stethoscope (to listen heart sounds) with additional sensors to record an ECG ( an electrocardiogram, a measure of the heart’s electrical activity). Then the AI takes over (via a computer program) to analyse the ECG readings. As per the medical experts this smart…

Kejriwal- Resignation Drama

Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, was granted bail by the Supreme Court (SC) a few days back, with a caveat that he would not sign any document or go to the CM office, and will take no part in administrating the affairs of Delhi. Yesterday, ie 15/9/2024 Arvind Kejriwal announced his plans to resign following his release from Tihar jail. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo has also sought early polls in the national capital and vowed to avoid the CM chair until he was given a “certificate of honesty” by the people of Delhi. The AAP is asking for snap election in Delhi alongside with Maharashtra Assembly in November 2024. This move is similar to what he did in 2014 after spending 49 days as CM of Delhi. This move could prove to be master stroke but there are major chances that this could backfire also. What…
