ODI Captains
In cricket, One Day International (ODI) matches are still popular even after the introduction of T20 cricket. Earlier when people started getting bored with 5-day Test matches and sometimes even after playing for 5 days, the match would end in a tame draw. That was the time ODI cricket infused fresh air in cricket in the early ’70s. Fans were very happy that in one day the match will be over and there would be definite results also. In ODIs, as compared to Test matches, Captain’s role became very crucial, as he had to use his resources in the allotted overs, whether batting or bowling. As while batting his team had to score maximum runs in the allotted overs, and while bowling his bowlers had to bowl and get the wickets of batsmen or restrict the flow of runs, so that the opposing team’s total score is kept under check….
Welfare State
Two days back, the Election Commission (EC) in a communication to all recognized national and state political parties that every political party submit an additional proforma detailing each of the electoral promises made in the manifesto, the full expenditure involved and how exactly this will be met given the state’s financial health. The proposal has generated a strong political reaction to the larger debate on ‘Freebies’ vis a vis ‘welfare schemes’. The opposition parties are demanding that an all-party- meeting should be called by the EC. The mandate of the EC is to conduct free and fair elections in the country, this communication indicates that the EC is encroaching into the rights and duties of other constitutional authorities. The opposition parties’ leaders’ contention is that we are WELFARE STATE as per our constitution, and we have every right to announce welfare schemes and freebies. INDIA- A Welfare State As originally…

Farce Election
For the last few days, one news that has caught attention is that of the election for the Congress Party’s President post. The post of Congress party’s President is always the bane of contention because generally it is held by the member of the Gandhi family. From 1997 till now it is held by Sonia Gandhi barring a few years in between, it was held by Rahul Gandhi. He resigned from the Presidentship of the party after the debacle of the Congress party in the 2019 general election. After that Sonia Gandhi became interim President. Then there was a call from some senior congress leaders as Rahul Gandhi is reluctant to take the post of President, therefore there should be an internal election for the post of party President. So after a lot of consultation with her favourite leaders in the Congress party, Sonia Gandhi announced the program of holding…
Cricket- Maximum Zeroes
What is the most embarrassing moment for a cricketer, whether batsman, bowler, or wicketkeeper? Most cricket experts say that when a cricketer is out without scoring a run, that is the most embarrassing moment. In actual practice bowlers are not expected to score many runs, still getting out on zero is not an achievement. In reality, there are many great batsmen who have not scored any runs in their innings. Given below is the list of cricketers who got out on zero for a maximum number of times in their career, playing in all formats of the game: 1 M Muralidaran (Sri Lanka/Asia/ICC) Bowler- In his career spanning from 1992 to 2011, he played in 495 matches, batted in 328 innings, scored 1936 runs, he got out at zero for 59 times. 2 Courtney Walsh (West Indies) Bowler- In his career spanning from 1984 to 2001, 337 matches, 264 innings,…
AI- Cardiac Issues
Cardiac disease has become a leading cause of death in India. So many people die because of this disease, and many times people in the late ‘30s and ‘40s who normally look healthy succumb to this disease. When someone dies of this disease, generally we hear that the person has died because of a heart attack or the person has died because of cardiac arrest. For the general public heart attack and cardiac arrest look the same, but there is quite a difference between the two terms- A heart attack is when one of the coronary arteries becomes blocked. The heart muscle is robbed of its vital blood supply and if left untreated, will begin to die because it is not getting enough oxygen. A cardiac arrest is when a person’s heart stops pumping blood around the body and the person stops breathing normally The most common symptoms of heart…
Adjournment
ADJOURNMENT. Friends you must have come across this word quite often, and this word is mostly used in legal cases, by mentioning that the said case is adjourned for a later date. In the ’90s there was one Bollywood movie named ‘Damini’ which had a classic dialogue that became very famous, which goes like this “ Court Mein Tareekh Pe Takeekh, Tareekh Pe Tareekh Milti Hai Par Insaaf Nahin Milta”, which has become truth for our legal system. Here the cases drag on for years together, as the adjournment is available for any flimsy reasons for both the concerned parties. What is a valid ground for adjournment? The rule says that “ adjournments are to be granted only if the circumstances are beyond the control of the party who seeks one. The pleading advocate being sick can be the reason for adjournment but the pleader/advocate off the party is engaged…
Seniors and Sleep
It has been noticed that as you grow older your sleep pattern starts changing. It is not any cause for worry as it generally happens with everybody. As per one survey mostly all men and women aged 65 years and above have at least one sleep problem. So, it is pretty common for seniors to experience changes in the quality and duration of their sleep with age. Most people find that with age they have a harder time falling asleep. They also wake up more often during the night, feel tired during the day and even feel the need to take a nap or just lie down. How sleep changes with age As we age, our body produces a decreased amount of two important hormones- the growth hormone and melatonin. When this happens, it results in a decrease in slow-wave or deep sleep and leads to more fragmented sleep with…
ODI Partnerships
At present days cricket is played in three formats- Test cricket, One Day cricket, and T20 cricket. Today I am talking about One Day International (ODI) cricket. In ODIs, if the team batting first makes a huge score, then the chasing team needs a good partnership between at least one pair of batsmen to reach the target and win the match. Actually, in all three formats of the game, there is very big importance is given to a partnership between the two batsmen. If there is a good partnership, then the team finds it easier to reach the target. In the ODI format, there are many batsmen who in partnership with other batsmen batted so well, and that one partnership was instrumental in winning the game. In today’s blog, I am writing about those partnerships in ODIs where the batsmen remained not out till the end, and helped the team…
