Dilip Kumar-Mukesh

DILIP KUMAR was a legendary actor of Bollywood, who in the initial years of his career got famous as Tragedy King, but later on he switched to light and comical roles also. Initially, when he was known for tragic roles, most of the songs picturized on him were sung by Talat Mehmood. Later, in the 1950s, he preferred Mohammad Rafi to provide playback for his songs. Later, Mahendra Kapoor also sang his song, and even in the later stages of his career, Kishore Kumar sang a few songs for him. But one singer who sang a few songs for him in the 1940s and 1950s did not give playback to his songs in the later part of his career, although many of the songs sung by this singer topped the charts. Friends, I am talking about singer MUKESH.

I can not remember any songs where Manna Dey and Hemant Kumar gave playback to Dilip Kumar’s songs , although these two singers have sung songs in the film where Dilip Kumar has acted.

Next four songs are film the film Andaz (1949). In this  film Mukesh gave playback for Dilip  Kumar and Mohd Rafi for Raj Kapoor.  Majrooh Sultanpuri  was the lyricist and Naushad was the Music Director

There is a story behind #1 song, this song is from Yahudi (1958). The song is written by  Shailendra and Shankar Jaikishan were the Music Director. Looking at the tune and nature of the song Dilip Kumar insisted that the song should be sung by Talat Mehmood, but Shankar Jaikishan were of the opinion that only Mukesh can do justice to this song. In the end it was decided that song will be recorded in Mukesh’s voice, and if not liked by Dilip Kumar and other members of production team, it will be dubbed by  Talat Mehmood. But after the recording everyone including Dilip Kumar agreed that Mukesh has done complete justice to the song and rest is history. The song is

And after 1958, as per my knowledge Mukesh did not sing any song for Dilip Kumar.
