A-  In the English language, some words can substitute a long  explanation or phrase :

1 Long speech by one  person- Monologue

2 A talk between two or more people- Dialogue

3 A formal argument or discussion- Debate

4 A talk given to teach or explain- Lecture

5 A small class for discussion- Seminar

6 A big meeting of people– Conference

7 A formal meeting on a subject- Symposium

8 A class with hands-on-practice- Workshop

9 Showing or explaining something- Presentation

10 An act of showing how something works- Demonstration

11 Telling a story- Narration

12 Explaining what something looks or feels like- Description

13 Talking about something with others- Discussion

14 Talking with someone- Conversation

15 Telling news or information publicly- Announcement

16 A short or simple message- Statement

17 A strong public announcement- Declaration

18 A formal talk in public- Speech

19 A formal speech to a group- Address

20 A gathering for discussions- Meeting

21 A question-and-answer session- Interview

22 Talking after a task is done- Debrief

23 A response or opinion about something- Feedback

24  A account of what happened- Report

25 A short version of something longer- Summary

26 One who knows everything- Omniscient

27 One who is present everywhere- Omnipresent

28 One who is all powerful- Omnipotent

29 One who acts against religion-Heretic

30  One who offers one’s services- Volunteer

31 One who loves mankind- Philanthropist

32 One who hates mankind- Misanthrope

33 One who is out to destroy the government– Anarchist

31 One who eats human flesh- Cannibal

32 Those who live at the same time- Contemporary

33 One who is indifferent to pain and pleasure- Stoic

34 One who is given to pleasure of the flesh- Epicure

35  One who studies things of the past- Antiquarian

36 One who is a habitual drunkard- Sot

37 One who knows many languages– Polyglot

38 One who cuts precious stones- Lapidary

39 One who deals in cattle- Drover

40 One that lives on others- Parasite

 

B  There are some English words which are not regularly used in day to day conversation but are mostly used in English literature, here are some of such words with their meaning:

1 Ubiquitous–  Present Everywhere

2 Esoteric– Mysterious

3 Quintessential–  Perfect example.

4 Pernicious– Subtly harmful

5 Obfuscate–  To confuse

6 Sycophant– Flatter for gain

7 Magnanimous– Generous and forgiving

8 Recalcitrant– Stubbornly resistant

9 Ineffable– Beyond words

10 Disparate– Completely different

11 Ephemeral– Short-lived

12 Capitulate– To give in

13 Parsimonious– Very stingy

14 Reticent– Reserve or quiet

15 Vicissitude– Change in life

16 Cogent– Convincing and clear

17 Prosaic– Dull or ordinary

18 Pulchritude– Physical beauty

19 Disenfranchise– Remove voting rights

20 Intransigent– Uncompromising

21 Egregious– Shockingly bad

22 Fastidious– Detail-focused

23 Obsequious– Overly flattering

24 Bellicose– Aggressive

25 Surreptitious– Secretive

26 Juxtapose– Contrast side by side

27 Recondite– Hard to understand

28 Ambivalent– Mixed feelings

29 Inveterate– Long-standing habit

30 Impecunious– poor or penniless
