Humanity Is Alive

In a metro city like Mumbai, where people do not have time, and everybody is so busy in their own daily  routine. And when in Mumbai some incident happens and people come forward to help others, then you feel “ Humanity is still alive”, and this happens many times in the city. One such incident happened in Mumbai two days back, which has caught the eyes of Mumbaikars.

In this incident, the conductor and the driver of the city Bus service known as BEST, were involved. The incident involved a 5 year old boy, who was traveling with his mother on the bus. Around 1.00 pm when the bus was near Sena Bhavan (Dadar area), the driver and conductor heard the wailing of a lady commuter, who was in shock . Her son was twitching and jerking his limbs and was partially conscious. The driver and conductor immediately asked other passengers to get down from the bus, and took the boy to a  nearby hospital. They also offered to give all cash they had, including day’s earning by way sale of tickets, for the boy’s hospital admission. During treatment, the duo kept assuring the boy’s mother that everything will be fine and nothing will happen to him. They only went back to their duties when the Doctor informed them that boy is out of danger.

A woman who witnessed the happenings at the hospital wrote in her Facebook post “ The bus conductor was holding a small child in his arms and a helpless mother was sobbing. The hospital staff with nurses rushed towards the child with all necessary primary aid. I enquired at the hospital counter and learned that the boy had febrile seizures in the bus” As per this woman the bus staffers deposited the entire cash which was collected since morning to get the child admitted (they took the financial risk for an unknown family). They got back the cashback from the hospital, as this was not the case that the hospital would have asked for an admission fee and then treated the kid, it was the hospital’s proactive decision to avoid any delays in the treatment. The woman further adds that “ I was stunned for some time and was unable to react to the situation. But when driving back home, I realized that fast paced life where we barely have time even for our family members, the superheroes  like Conductor and driver of the bus, who save the unknown life with all their heart, means humanity is alive.”

The conductor and the driver were felicitated by the BEST General Manager later in the day.

There are many such incidents, which keep on happening in the city. Sometimes back, I was also helped by some unknown person in difficult times. It happened in 2019 during rainy days, I was returning from a visit to my doctor around noon, and when I came down from Metro station to take conveyance to go back to my home, there was no conveyance available, as the roads were flooded with water. Left with no choice, I started walking so that I may get some conveyance further down. When I came to one intersection where all the traffic was at standstill,  there was knee deep water flowing in full stream. Seeing people walking across the stream to cross the road, I also started moving forward, after some distance the current of water was so strong that  I really became afraid to cross the road, and then suddenly out of nowhere one lady held my hand and helped me cross the road, she kept on holding my hand till we reached to safety, where there was not much water on the road. After that when I said thank you to her, she just smiled and walked away.

In the end, I wish to say that ‘Humanity is alive’ in this fast paced city of Mumbai, and you do not know from where ANGELS will come to help you.

Humanity is an important part of life which tells that to help others, try to understand other and realize the people problems with our own eyes and try to help them. Showing humanity One don’t need to be a rich person, even a poor person can sow humanity by helping someone or sharing his or her food, etc
