Gas & indigestion have become a common problem in our lives. Should we always resort to popping up pills even in a normal scenario? As we age the problem starts becoming aggravated. Heavy meals, overeating, greasy or spicy food, late meals etc., are likely to have much more effect on your stomach. Indigestion can be felt in many ways like stomach ache, bloating, discomfort, gastric issues or passing gas, heartburn, fullness in the stomach, belching etc. The usual temptation is to reach out to some over the counter (OTC) kind of medicines like Gelusil, Eno, or some tablets. While these may be effective in relieving the symptoms, but is always good to avoid the causes like overeating, eating oily or spicy food etc. Instead of taking OTC medicines, one must try some natural remedies to sort out this problem.
Stay Hydrated- It will not just help you avoid indigestion, but also help you ease the issues caused due to it.
Ginger- It is an excellent home remedy for digestion issues. One may chew it and swallow the juice. However, if one is not used to that, then you can boil ginger in cup of water and drink ginger tea. It is said that ginger contains certain compounds called gingerols and shagaols that can help in speeding up digestion through the stomach.
Lemon-Drinking a glass of lime or lemon juice, with a pinch of baking soda can help relieve the indigestion symptom. The acid and nutrients in the lemon juice will help absorption and also will reduce the gas in the stomach. It will neutralize the bile acids, and thus people start feeling better.
Cumin (Jeera)- It is an ancient cure for gas and indigestion. One of the best ways to use cumin is to dry roast some quantity, and then boil in the cup of water, and reduce it to half and consume. You could even chew few cumin seeds to help indigestion.
Coconut Water- It is good for aiding hydration and indigestion issues. It contains nutrients like potassium and magnesium and these are good at relieving issues like muscle cramps, and pain and also aid in the digestion of the food. This can be consumed on and off throughout the day, without any side effects.
Cinnamon- It is known to many that another spice, we often used in cooking is cinnamon, which is a good remedy for indigestion. This spice contains a few antioxidants that can help in reducing gas, indigestion, bloating, heartburn, stomach irritation, cramps, belching etc. You could add a pinch of cinnamon powder in your food, or try a regular cinnamon tea, just like the ginger tea mentioned earlier.
So these are a few home remedies that can be tried for indigestion instead of consuming some OTC pills and other products.
