For the last few days, there has been continuous news in the media about the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the country. Now, one question lingering in everybody’s mind is whether COVID-19 IS REVIVING IN INDIA.
After creating mayhem in the world from 2019-2022, the virus is seeing a gradual return to Asia with Singapore and Hongkong recording the maximum of cases in the last few weeks.
Here is the current situation in the country:
Kerala has the highest number of active COVID-19 cases in the country, according to the data of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, as of yesterday the state of Kerala has 430 active cases. Since 19th May 2025, Kerala has recorded 335 new cases of Covid-19, with 105 people discharged after treatment, and two related death was also recorded in this state. Across India there are currently 1,010 active Covid-19 cases, according to ministry’s data.
Other states with a noticeable number of cases include Maharashtra (209), Delhi (104), Gujarat (83) and Karnataka (47). A patient in Kalwa (Maharashtra) after testing positive was admitted to hospital on 22nd May 2025, passed away. As per Health Secretary cases have been increasing also in Tamilnadu.
Most of the new cases are said to be mild in nature, are being managed at home. The Health Ministry is on the alert and keeping a close watch on the situation through various government agencies. The country is still tracking respiratory illnesses through the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
Even though Covid-19 is now treated like other viral infections, people are still advised to follow basic precautions such as washing hands regularly, wearing masks in crowded places, and avoiding unnecessary gatherings.
Other precautions
- Avoid touching your face, especially eyes, nose and mouth.
- Maintain physical distance in public places.
- Stay home if you aren’t feeling well, and seek medical advice if symptom persists.
- Keep rooms well ventilated and avoid gatherings if you are sick.
Friends, if you have forgotten, here are current COVID symptoms in 2025:
- Fever and chills.
- Shortness of breath or difficulty in breathing.
- Sore throat.
- Congestion or running nose.
- New loss of taste and smell.
- Muscle or body aches.
As per the Health Ministry advisory, the present 2024-25 vaccine is effective for recent viral strains, it is recommended that everyone stay up to date by getting this vaccine. Previous vaccines or booster doses were not developed to target the more recent strains. The Ministry’s Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), recommends;
- Everyone ages 5 and older receive one shot of the updated vaccine.
- Children ages 6 months to 4 years may need more than one shot to be up to date.
- People who are moderately or severely immune compromised may need more than one shot.
For all practical purposes, there is nothing to fear if your immunity is strong. So eat healthy and stay strong.
