Jobs- Government or Private

There have been criticisms by many opposition parties that the government is not creating enough jobs. What they always refer to is creating jobs in government offices. With the digitalisation and computerisation of operations in government offices, it is natural that clerical and Junior officer types of jobs are slowly being reduced in the government sector. But it is also a reality that even in government offices, certain jobs which require special skills are increasing, like jobs related to Information Technology (IT) and Computer applications. I fail to understand why, even after 78 years of independence, there is a craze for government jobs. Agreed, in the initial years after independence, there were very few jobs in the private sector, hence everyone used to aspire for government jobs, and secondly, there was this misconception regarding the government jobs that it is 9 to 5 jobs, and you could take it easy, as at that time there was very less accountability in the government jobs.

As per the data available, presently there are approximately 50 lakhs jobs in the Central government. If you go by rough estimates the number of jobs available in the State government offices will be anywhere between 1 Cr to 1.25 Cr, and there will be about 25 lakhs jobs available in public sector companies at various levels. There are about 15 lakhs jobs available in defence forces, and 15 lakhs in Railways. So there are roughly 2.30 Cr jobs available in all government sector combine.

So in the population of approx 145Cr, only 2.30 Cr jobs are available in various government sectors. The rest of the jobs required are coming from private sectors, from small and medium scale businessmen, and self employment. So it is only the small percentage of people who are employed in government sectors, the rest of the working class looks for jobs in private sector.

So any government at Centre and State can not generate more jobs then what ever is essential requirement. So these politician should stop insisting that government should create more jobs in government sector, instead they should clamour for development, so that new jobs can be created.

So lets us see, what is the employment strength of various top business groups;

  • Tata group has approx 7,50,000 employees.
  • L & T’s employee strength is about 3,40,000
  • Infosys has about 2,60,000 employees.
  • Mahindra & Mahindra is having 2,36,000 employees.
  • Wipro has about 2,10,000 employees.
  • HCL has about 1,67,000 employees.
  • HDFC Bank has about
  • HDFC Bank has about 1,20,000 employees.
  • ICICI Bank has about 97,000 employees.
  • TVS group has about 60,000 employees

Only these 10 top private sector companies give employment to about 25 lakh people with respectable pay package. These are the figures of the employees who are directly on their pay roll. Other than this, what about the people employed by these companies’ Associates, Agents, Dealers and companies who supplied them their various requirements, and transport companies. It is presumed that if a company has employee strength of 1,00,000, then there are about 4,00,000 jobs created by their various associate companies.

The above given is the example of ten companies, there may be lakhs of such various such companies who are generating direct and indirect employment.

In the last two or three decades,  many new types of jobs were created which were not available earlier, few examples are:

  • Call Centres where many young people with computer knowledge and communication skills are employed.
  • Delivery Apps– like Zomato, Swiggy and others, lakhs of people are employed in various cities, for delivering the products of many companies.
  • E Commerce Companies– like Amazon, Flipkart, Jio Mart, Snap Deal, Meesho and many more.
  • Aggregator Cabs– like Uber, Ola, Rapido employs lakhs of people across various cities and towns in the country.

And what about Crores of people who are self employed, such as food cart vendors, vegetable vendors, Auto and taxi drivers, small shop keepers and many more.

Then there are many jobs which were not their earlier, like maintenance and house keeping staff in various malls all over the country. The list is endless for the private sector. Yes, there are many types of jobs available in the country provided you are willing to take them, and not waste and idle your time waiting for the government job to fall in your lap.

So, in the end there is request to the politicians that do not demean and insult the private sector, and stop saying that Ambani and Adani are running the government. These private sector industrialists and business men are creating lakhs of jobs.

For last three generation these so called socialist politicians have killed the financial capabilities of many Indians. If you want to see India prospering in coming days, stop listening to these useless politicians who are only running their political agenda. Indian need thousands of big industries and corporations who can create well paying jobs. These politician should see in mirror and think whether your political hatred is important or the future of coming generation is important?
