Lalu Prasad-Family Feud

After the crushing defeat of the RJD in the Bihar State Assembly polls, the feud within the family of Lalu Prasad Yadav is hogging the headlines in the media. The feud within the family has raised new questions about leadership within the RJD following the defeat in the Assembly elections. Before going into the feud, first let us know who is  who in Lalu Prasad family:

1 Misa Bharti (49)- She is the eldest daughter, holds an MBBS degree and has been very active in politics

2 Rohini Acharya (Daughter-46)-She has also studied MBBS in Singapore. She donated one of her kidneys to her father. She has now publicly distanced herself from family.

3 Chanda Singh (Daughter)- Her public role is relatively low compared to her siblings.

4 Ragini Yadav (Daughter)-Her husband Rahul Yadav is a political figure associated with the Samajwadi Party.

5 Hema Yadav (Daughter)-Publicly, she is less in the limelight.

6 Anushka Dhanu Rao- Her husband Chiranjeev Rao is from a politically active family in Haryana.

7 Raj Lakshmi Yadav (Daughter)- She is married to Tej Pratap Singh Yadav, also from political family.

8 Tej Pratap Yadav (Son-37)-He is Lalu’s eldest son. He has been active in politics and also served as a minister in Bihar. In 2025, his father expelled from family and the party, citing irresponsible behavior.

9 Tejashwi Prasad Yadav (Son-35)- The younger son and a very prominent political figure. He has served as Deputy CM of Bihar. He was the CM’s face of RJD’s campaign in recent elections.

Now coming back to the feud:

Rohini Acharya’s allegations against her brother Tejashwi Yadav and his close associates have led to the breakdown in the family, with multiple siblings taking sides and leaving the Patna home. The crisis reflects long-simmering tensions over control of the party, the growing influence of Tejashwi’s advisers, and the organizational confusion after the RJD’s poor performance in Bihar Assembly elections.

How the Crisis Began

Rohini Acharya, who lives in Singapore, accused Tejashwi’s associates of “abusing” and “throwing” her out of the Patna home. She said she was insulted for donating her “dirty kidney” and was accused of seeking crores of rupees and a Lok Sabha ticket.

He claim triggered a chain reaction inside the family- Three sisters- Ragini, Chanda and Raj Lakshmi-left the Patna residence. Another set of daughters left for Delhi with their children.

Rohini also claimed she was “humiliated and abused” and that a slipper was lifted to hit her. She said her parents Lalu and Rabri Devi were crying and blamed people close to Tejashwi, Sanjay Yadav and Rameez Neemat Khan for her ‘fate’. She said in an emotional post, “ I would tell all married women never to do anything to save their parents, and if they have brother, they should ask him donate his own kidney or ask his Haryanvi friend to do”.

What sparked the Family break:

1 RJD’s election defeat strengthened the internal questioning

  • The RJD won only 25 of the 143 seats it contested. This loss opened up questions on leadership and strategy, all directed at Tejashwi.
  • Leaders said dissatisfaction had been brewing as Tejashwi relied heavily on a tight group of advisers instead of wider party consultations.

2 Rohini’s allegations triggered an emotional and political shift

  • Her remarks publicly exposed disagreements that family members had kept private for years. He sisters’ departure added weight to her claims.

3 Growing anger over outsiders in the party

  • Rohini named two associates- Rajya sabha MP Sanjeev Yadav and former cricketer Rameez Neemat Khan-as people influencing decisions and creating divisions inside the family and party.

Tej Pratap Yadav, who was expelled by Lalu supported Rohini strongly. He said “This incident has shaken me. But the insult meted out to my sister is intolerable. I tolerated whatever happened to me but her humiliation can not be tolerated under any condition. The consequence of this injustice will be very dire.

From available information, the central name in the dispute, apart from Tejashwi is Rameez Neemat Khan, whom Rohini directly accused.

Here is why his name is now in the spotlight

  • He is a close associate of Tejashwi and part of his inner circle.
  • He and Tejashwi played cricket together during their youth and are close friends.
  • He joined RJD in 2016 and handled sensitive tasks like social media operations and parts of the campaign.
  • His background includes several criminal cases in UP. He is out on bail.
  • Rohini and Tej Pratap’s public anger position him as a primary trigger for the present conflict.

Te other person repeatedly named in the dispute is Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Yadav, described as Tejashwi’s political strategist.

Neither Lalu Prasad, Rabri Devi, nor Tejashwi have responded publicly.

  • Party insiders say Lalu does not want to escalate the matter further.
  • Tejashwi believes speaking now may worsen the situation.
  • The RJD wants to avoid political consequences when morale in the party is already low.
  • The JDU has asked Lalu to intervene, with spokesperson Neeraj Kumar saying, “ She is the daughter of entire Bihar, then why you are silent, Laluji, please break your silence.

Let us wait and watch about the further development in this issue.
