Friends, do you know what the term ONOMATOPOEIA means in the English language?

Onomatopoeia is a word that physically imitates, resembles, or suggests the sound that it describes. These words sound like the noise or action they refer to.

Here are some such words:

1 BANG– The sound of a gun firing or a door slamming shut.

2 BEEP-A short, high-pitched electronic sound.

3 BLOOP– The sound of a bubble rising to the surface of water.

4 BONK– The sound of light hot on the head.

5 BOOM– A deep, resonant sound like a distant explosion or thunder.

6 BUMP– The sound of two objects colliding.

7 BUZZ– The low, continuous sound made by bee or a  vibrating object.

8 CHIRP– The short, high-pitched sound made by a small bird.

9 CLANG– A loud, metallic sound.

10 CLAP– The sound made by striking one’s hands together.

11 CLICK– A short, sharp sound like a key turning in a lock or a computer mouse being pressed.

12 CRACKLE– A series of small, sharp, snapping noises, like a fire burning.

13 CREAK– A high-pitched squeaking sound like an old floorboard or door hinge.

14 DRIP– The sound of single drop of liquid falling.

15 FIZZ– The sound of gas escaping from a liquid, like in a carbonated soft drink.

16 GIGGLE– A light, high-pitched silly laugh.

17 GROAN– A deep, mournful sound expressing pain or despair.

18 GURGLE– The bubbling sound of liquid, like baby’s happy noise or a stream flowing over rocks.

19 HISS– A sharp, prolonged ‘S’ sound, like that made by snake or steam escaping.

20 HOOT– The deep, owl like sound.

21 HUM– A low, steady continuous sound, like a refrigerator running.

22 MOO– The deep, loving sound like cow.

23 MURMUR– A soft, indistinct sound made by a person or group of people speaking softly.

24 OINK– The characteristic grunt of a pig.

25 PITTER PATTER– The light, quick, repetitive sound of rain drops or small footsteps.

26 QUACK– The sound made by a duck.

27 RATTLE– A series of short, sharp, knocking sounds, like when shaking a box of small, hard objects.

28 ROAR– A deep, powerful, prolonged sound, like that of a lion or a large engine.

29 RUSTLE– The soft, crackling sound of dry leaves or paper moving.

30 THUD– A dull, heavy sound of a dense object falling or hitting something.
