Red Fort Bomb Blast

On the evening of Monday, 10th November 2025, a powerful Car-Bomb Explosion occurred near the Red Fort in Delhi, a major tourist and commercial area. The incident, classified as a “ heinous terror incident” by the government, resulted in at least 12 people dead and more than 25 injured.

Details of the Incident

  • Time and location: The blast occurred around 6.50 pm in a slow-moving Hyundai i20 car at a busy traffic signal near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort metro station.
  • Casualties: The explosion killed at least 12 people and injured several others, many critically. Eyewitnesses described horrific scenes, with several nearby vehicles catching fire and body parts found at the site.
  • Investigation: The National Investigating Agency (NIA), India’s primary counter-terrorism agency, took over the probe, with the government invoking an “anti-terror” law, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
  • Perpetrators: Preliminary investigations suggest the incident was a terror attack linked to the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) group. The prime suspect, identified as Dr Umar Mohd. Nabi, a Pulwama native, is believed to have been a suicide bomber and died in an explosion. Forensic tests confirmed that the ammonium nitrate used matched materials seized from busted terror module Faridabad, linking the cases.
  • Modus Operandi: The blast may have triggered prematurely due to panic after police raids had led arrest of two other suspects Dr Muzammil Shakeel and Dr Adil Rather, and the seizure of large cache of explosives (nearly 3000 kg of ammonium nitrate) in Faridabad.

Aftermath and Response

  • Security Measures: A high alert was issued across Delhi and several other Indian States, including UP, Haryana, and Maharashtra. Security was also heightened at airports, railway stations, and the Indo-Nepal border. The Red Fort was temporarily closed, and the nearby Metro station was shut down as precaution.
  • Government Action: PM Narendra Modi and home Minister Amit Shah monitored the situation, with Shah vowing to “hunt down” every culprit. The Union Cabinet adopted a resolution condemning the “heinous” attack and observing two minutes of silence for the victims.
  • Arrests: Several suspects were detained across the country, including Dr Umar Nabi’s father in Kashmir, to investigate their possible involvement or prior knowledge of the attack.. Several people, including doctors and a car dealer, have been detained for questioning across multiple States including Haryana, UP and J&K.

This type of terrorist bomb attack happened in major city of the country after so many years, and this shocked the nation. This prompted an immediate and extensive security crackdown as authorities worked to dismantle the terror network responsible for the attack.

Key Updates

  • Perpetrator Identified: DNA test results confirmed that Dr Umar was driving the i20 car that exploded. Samples from his remains matched those of his mother and brother, who were detained for questioning in Pulwama , Kashmir.
  • Suspect details & Links: Dr Umar was a senior doctor at Al Falah University in Faridabad (Haryana). Investigators believe he and another arrested doctor, Dr Muzammil Shakeel, who is also a key link in the “white collar” terror eco system, had visited the Red Fort area in January to plan the attack. The module is reportedly linked to JeM.
  • Future Attack Plans: Investigations revealed the terror module had plans for six other blasts across the national capital Region (NCR) on 6t December 2025.
  • As per the Indian intelligence officials “ An initial investigation pointed to logistical support from Pakistan-based groups for those behind this blast. But the actual perpetrators appeared to be “local and self-radicalised making plans by themselves. We are still looking into how they manage funds for it”.

At the time of writing this blog, the investigations are in full swing across pan India.
