In today’s weekend blog, I am back on Bollywood . Friends you must have seen many action films, and in these films, generally the storyline revolve around the theme of revenge. Today, I am writing about the greatest Bollywood revenge films of all times:
1 Kaabil– Starring Hrithik Roshan, Yami Gautam and Ronit Roy in main roles. The film centres around a blind voice over artists who becomes disheartened when his wife is molested, raped and executed. He transforms himself into a vigilante, seeking revenge against those responsible for her death. Despite being blind, he cleverly evades the police and deceives everyone, and making it difficult for everyone to believe that a blind man could commit execution.
2 Gangs of Waseypur– Starring Manoj Bajpai, Richa Chadda, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and others. Regarded as one of the best revenge films. This film showcases powerful acts of vengeance, intense gunfights, brutal execution and unforgettable dialogues..This film was made and released in two parts, within a period of few months.
3 Kahani– Starring Vidya Balan in a lead role. A pregnant women embarks on a journey from London to Kolkata in search of missing husband. However everyone she asks denies ever meeting him. The way she deals with obstacles, and the climax of the film leaves you stunned. Considered as one of the best suspense and revenge films of Bollywood.
4 Mom– Starring Sridevi in a title role, with Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The story revolves around a mother whose daughter is harmed. Nothing can stop her from seeking revenge. This film portrays unwavering determination of aggrieving mother as she uncovers the criminals responsible for her daughter’s tragic demise, and transforms her from meek to merciless in her quest for the truth. Bollywood often explores this powerful emotion and for a god reason.
5 Haider– Starring Shahid Kapoor, Tabu and Kay Kay Menon in lead roles. Set against the backdrop of the conflict-ridden Kashmir in 1995, and the disappearance of civilians. A young man returns to confront his uncle, whom he suspects being involved in his father’s execution. Wonderful acting by all lead characters.
6 Baazigar– Starring Shah Rukh Khaan,Kajol and Shilpa Shetty. This film was a runaway success when released in 1993, and established Shah Rukh Khan in Bollywood. The film initially portrays Vicky Malhotra as psychotic executioner. However it is later revealed that he has a purpose, while Madan Chopra is exposed as someone who has stolen everything from Vicky’s father, driving him to seek vengeance. The assassination of Shilpa Shetty, remains one of the most terrifying moments in Hindi film history.
7 Khoon Bhari Maang– Starring Rekha, Kabir Bedi and sonu walia in main roles. This film is from an era when women were often depicted as helpless victims in films. This film stands out as one of the best revenge films. Rekha plays character of Arti, a widow who is deceived into thinking that Sanjay loves her, where in reality he is after her wealth. Sanjay attempts to drown her, but she survives. Undergoes transformation and exacts her revenge while looking stunning.
8 Ghajini– Starring Aamir Khan, Asin and Bipin Rawat in main roles. A wealthy businessman witnesses the murder of his girlfriend at the hands of human trafficker named Gjajini. He sustains a head injury that causes him to lose his short term memory. Forgetting everything except his need to find and execute Ghajini. The film is excellent portraying both the storyline and the revenge aspect.
9 Table No. 21– Starring Paresh Rawal and Rajeev Khandelwal. The movies follow acouple who win atrip to te Fiji islands through a luck draw. They encounter Mr Khan, who invites them to participate in a live game involving personal question and daring tasks. It is later revealed that Mr Khan is the father of Akram, a man who suffered mental challenges due to the couple’s mistreatment during their college years. The film exposes the disturbing reality of collegr ragging and its detrimental effects on the individual.
And lastly the father of all Indian revenge films
10 Sholay– Starring Dharmendra, Sanjeev kumar, Hema Malini, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bhaduri and Amzad Khan. After a notorious and merciless bandit executes his family, a former police officer seeks the assistance of two outlaws to capture the bandit. The film dialogues have captured the hearts of millions of the people. Considered as the best revenge film of all times on the Hindi silver screen. Nominated as the best Bollywood film of the last century.
