Some interesting titbits news on last Thursday of Jun 2018
- As reported by Times of India Mumbai edition-It was big loss of face for the state Environment Minister, when State Govt buckle down under the public pressure and watered down the state wide plastic ban enforced on 23rd Jun. It has exempted retail packaging from the ambit of ban, which is a big victory for the retailers, who had pointed out earlier that they are being singled out in the ban, where as the Corporate can pack the item in plastic, but the same or similar item retailers can not pack in plastic. Additionally no penalty will be levied upon for the use of garbage liners and take away containers used by restaurants, for time being. As this issue is under consideration. The govt spoke person further stated that for time being we have asked Municipal Corporations to go only after plastic bags, one time use plastic cutlery and thermocol decoration materials. Other things needs to review again and till a decision is taken, no action is allowed. The Enviroment Minister stated that for retail business, the retailer name & plastic quality will have to be printed on the bag.
- With next General Election less than one year away, the political bickering has started in the media and temperatures are rising. Parties are going at each others throat, and Congress has started borrowing phrases from BJP’s vocabulary. Like recently Congress has borrowed ‘Aurangzeb’ from BJP favoured demonology- by equating PM Narendra Modi to Mughal ruler Aurandzeb, and signalling its own distance from Muslim appeasement. Congress President Rahul Gandhi keeps on making statement that BJP is murdering democracy, on response to this attack BJP counter attacks with reminding Congress of Emergency days and telling the Congressmen, the party which destroyed and murdered the democracy during emergency is Congress party. Reminding Congress of Emergency is liking hitting them below the belt as Congress party has never arrived at real reckoning with the Emergency period, when civil liberties were suspended across the country. Secondly BJP always tell Congress party is a non democratic party which is being controlled by single family . In the times to come, the verbal battle is going to be very bad and it is feared that opponents will not refrain from using bad and filthy languages.
- Two days back CNN website reported that India is the most dangerous place in the world for women. and our great leader Rahul Gandhi started harping on that statement, forgetting that he also lives in same India, and started attacking the present govt. Rahul wants to become next PM of the country, can he brief us how he is going to make India safer for women. Why he is forgetting that his party has ruled for max years after independence, did in those days India was safer for women. In my opinion the CNN report was totally biased, as per the information available on the net per capita figures for rape in various countries are : India- 1.8(per 100,000 population) Germany-9.4, UK-17, Norway-19.2, US- 27.4 and Sweden-63.5. For western media, India is deemed to be rape capital of the world, but the same media seem to be able to handle high rape figures in their own country without going through the same horror and outrage, which they feel when they report about India. Agreed that the real figure in India will be much higher as many rape cases are not reported, but even then figures of other country will be much higher. The basic truth is incidents of rapes are widespread all over the world and the western world is no exception. It will be better if the western media soon realise that, treating it as universal crime in all cultures and societies at present, then only the efforts to deal with this type of crime will work, and which will also depict the honesty.
- World Cup Football- last night defending Champion and one of the favourite nation this year also, Germany went out of the championship leaving the German fans in disbelief and shock. The fact was Germany side looked bit jaded, but it is to the credit of South Korean Goalkeeper who performed wonderfully and saved many attempts made by German forwards. But when South Korean scored their first goal in the injury time it was all over for Germany, and within 4 minutes South Koreans scored one more goal. This is the first time Germany had gone out of this tournament without entering the last 16 phase.

R. N. Mungale.
It is truly a loss of face for Ramdas Kadam.
As elections date comes near all parties will make legible or illegible allegations against others.
I agree that rapes must be handled as universal phenomenon.
