Friends , we are in the last weekend of 2017. This year has been very dramatic for the country. The year started with the aftermath affect of demonitisation, what ever hardship the general public faced due to this was greatly exaggerated by opposition parties, as they were taken off guard and most of them were busy in converting their cash into new currency. Then came GST on 1st July 2017, which was duly launched by the govt after the approval of parliament, and tariffs of GST rates for different commodities approved by the committee of the parliamentarians where members from all the political parties were member. But as soon as GST was introduced the business and trading community started protesting against the provision of this bill and all the major opposition parties started supporting there moves. After much deliberation and changes it looks like now the hue and cry associated is slowly dying down. Here I want to quote one incident regarding GST- During campaigning for Gujarat elections members of trading community met Rahul Gandhi Congress President (then VP) and told him that before GST they were doing most of their business in cash and hence they were not paying any sales tax, so now we are suffering loses due to strict compliance of GST, Rahul Gandhi replied that he will look into it. On that day what ever respect I had for Congress and Gandhi family became totally dead for me, a leader of opposition instead of telling the traders please comply with GST as this bill is passed by Parliament,is telling them if we come to power we will do some thing about the same. Shame Shame.
Now let us see who were the news makers in different field
- Politics- PM Narendra Modi was way ahead in popularity among all the political leaders. The way he faced the brickbats from so many corners due to demonitisation, but he never relented and general public supported him for his crusade against rooting out the black money. It was his and BJP’s President Amit Shah’s credit that even after negative publicity of demonitisation they won election of UP with thumping majority and in the process routed SP, BSP and Congress. At same time they won in Uttarakhand and also formed the govt in Goa and Manipur . After the negative publicity of GST, they won the elections in the states of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, which reflects on the leadership quality of Narendra Modi and administrative acumen of Amit Shah. Modi also got the support of Muslim women, when he promised them he will act against Triple Talaq, even SC gave the judgement that this is against the guidelines of our constitution and instructed Parliament to enact the law to make triple talaq illegal. The first hurdle was cleared yesterday when Lok Sabha passed this bill. All opposition political leaders only made noise in Parliament and did nothing for the welfare of countrymen.
- Sports- Let us first talk about cricket and it was Virat Kohli who was the undisputed news maker of the year, he played 46 international matches( Test 10, ODI 26 and T2o 10) overall he scored 2818 runs with 11 centuries. He as a captain won all series which he led against different teams. Recently his marriage to his long time girl friend bollywood actress Anushka Sharma created a big news in media and even PM Modi attended their marriage reception in New Delhi. In cricket even Rohit Sharma’s performance was also very much appreciated and he equaled the record of scoring fastest century in T20 match, which he did in 35 balls. In badminton PV Sandhu won silver medal in badminton world championship and also won 2 super series titles, In the men’s section K Shrikanth won 4 super series titles and established himself as world’s leading player. There was not much to talk about the news makers in other sports
- Bollywood- 2017 was not a very good year business wise for bollywood as most of the big budget movies flopped miserably and leading the pack was Rangoon, Tubelight, Raees, Harry met Sejal and many more. The biggest hit of the year was a south dubbed movie Bahubali, and at the fag end of the year Salman Khan’s film Tiger Zinda Hai which has been declared as a super hit. Many low budget movies did very good business. From the leading men it was Akshay Kumar who became the news maker of the year, first he won the national award for the best actor for 2016 film Rustom. Then his 2 low budget films Jolly LLB 2 and Toilet-Ek Prem Katha were declared super hits and his acting was appreciated in both the movies . From the leading ladies it was Bhumi Pednekar became the news maker as 2 of her films Toilet-Ek Prem Katha and Shubh Mangal Savdhan, both low budget films did very good business and people liked her performance in both the films. Other leading man whose films Judwa 2 and Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya did good business was Varun Dhawan.
I hope you will enjoy this year end wrap up.

1. In politics Mr. Narendra Modi did win all elections except Punjab. However real test will be 2019 Loksabha elections.
2, Both Virat & Rohit did India proud.
