Monday Blues

Today, on this Monday of Sept  2018. The week has started with the opposition sponsored Bharat bandh. It is a basically Congress instigated Bharat bandh, and what is the reason for bandh call, petrol price increase, dictatorship of the govt and general unrest in the country due to govt policies. In my opinion this bandh call is all humbug and the reasons are quite whimsical. My observations on few points, on which bandh call has been given:

  1.  Let us see the trend in the petrol prices  during the UPA regime. In the year 2009- the peak petrol price in Mumbai was Rs 48.76 per litre, and in that year subsidy on petrol was Rs 46,051 Cr;  In the year 2010 peak price was Rs 55.88 per litre and subsidy was Rs 78,190 Cr; In year 2100 peak price was Rs 68.62 per litre and subsidy was Rs 148,5421 Cr; In year 2012 the peak price was Rs 78.57 per litre and subsidy was rs 161,029 Cr and in year 2013 the peak price was Rs 83.62 and subsidy was Rs 143,738 Cr. Additionally when UPA govt left in 2014, they left the unpaid bills of approx Rs 200,000 Cr, which were to be paid to Iraq govt, as due to UN embargo, there was restriction on payment to Iraqi govt. So at the time of UPA rule with subsidies and credits the petrol prices were not very low. Now can Congress or their finance minister the great P Chidambaram tell the nation where this Rs 200,000 Cr were used.
  2. Now let us see the petrol price in NDA regime starting from 2014- in 2014 the peak price of petrol was Rs 80 per litre and subsidy amount was Rs 76,285 Cr; In year 2015 the price went as low as Rs 64 per litre( max price was around Rs 70) and subsidy was  Rs 27,571; In 2016 the price went as low as Rs 62.75( max price around Rs 70) and subsidy was Rs 22,738 Cr; In 2017 the petrol price was decontrolled and petroleum companies decided upon the prices on the basis of crude oil price and taxes, this year the max price was Rs 78.67 per litre and subsidy was only Rs 7069 Cr; in the present year 2018, the max price is (at present) is Rs 87 per litre and nil subsidy. S0 instead of cribbing, the opposition and specially Congress should give credit to present govt for removing the subsidy on petrol account and also paying their govt’s balance payment of Rs 200,000  Cr. The problem with Congress is that they ruled the country with providing subsidies all around, and in certain cases the subsidies never used to reach the deserving and were pocketed by Congress’s middlemen, and the NDA govt even when they are providing subsidies it goes directly to beneficiary and not through any middlemen.
  3. Regarding dictatorship of govt- have the Congress forgotten the dictatorship of their leader Indira Gandhi. The problem with Congress is that they always think, their system of ruling was the best, because their leaders know how much that system of ruling benefited their leadership, so they are unable to think beyond that. Actually they are like frog  in the well, their life revolve around one family. Agreed there is a general unrest , but it is in the opposition ranks because they know in their heart and mind that in certain fields the work done by this  govt is far better than the work done by earlier govts.
  4.    They also blame the present govt for following Hindutva, in my opinion what is wrong in that. The majority population of this country is of Hindus, and as per Congress and some other opposition parties if you talk about Hindus you are communal but appeasement of minorities is secular. Congress call themselves a secular party, but in practice they have appeased only minorities, like Muslims. Current PM only talks about everyone and not only about Hindus, agreed he is from the party who believes in Hindutva. The policies of the present govt is for every one, not like the policy of great Congress leaders and their govts who used to give subsidy to Haj pilgrimage but  tax on Hindus for pilgrimage of Amarnath and other Dhams. One field where the present govt has failed to certain extent is controlling the lynching on the subject of cow protection and other lynching on caste factors.

I am a die hard Mumbaikar, and today during  the bandh  before afternoon, I was out for few hours, the traffic was normal on the road , morning all school buses came to pick the children, that means school  and college  were operating normally . During my Metro ride, the metro system was closed for about 10 minutes for precautionary measures, because few agitators entered one of the Metro station and they were cleared immediately and Metro services resumed. Even local suburban trains were running normally, yes in few areas shops were closed but not with sympathy with  bandh callers but out of fear of damage to their shops. And I know by the evening these Congressmen will start proclaiming bandh was a great success in Mumbai, and will also say that the general public whole hearted supported  the bandh.

In my opinion, all these so called bandhs are waste of time and adds to unproductive hours and waste of crores of rupees. Now if you have some complain with govt or not agreeing with their policies or decision, there is Parliament, assemby etc , where these political leaders can discuss and argue their point of contention with the ruling party. But Congress is one party which will never discuss any thing  in parliament or assembly because they  do not have any concrete facts to support their cause, in the parliament or assembly instead of discussing they block the proceedings and then come out and call for bandh to inconvenience the general public.
