Monday News

On this Monday, the last day of April 2018, some interesting news which I would like to share

  1. One great achievement  for the govt, which is, that all villages of the country are electrified. A village is considered to be electrified if 10% of its households and public places such as schools, panchayat office and health centre have access to electricity. On Saturday, 28th Apr 2018 at 5.30 pm Manipur’s  Leisang village became the last non electrified village to join India’s mainline supply network. By this action, all 5,97,464 inhabited villages now have access to electric power. This means, what PM promised on Aug 15, 2015 has been fulfilled. PM had announced on that day that within 1000 days all the villages in the country will have access  to electric power. So after 70 years of independence, we can say electric supply has reached all the inhabited places in the country. This thing should have been done long time back, but the earlier govts never worked in the direction of electrifying complete country. If you go by the data, by the end of 2013                      a) There were only 9 states where all the villages were electrified and they were Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Goa, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab , Sikkim and Tamilnadu.                                                                      b)There were 12 states where villages were electrified in the range of 90-99%, and they were Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, himachal Pradesh,          J & K, Madhya Pradesh, Chhatisgarh, Maharashtra, Mizoram, Rajasthan, Uttranchal and West Bengal.                                                       c)There were 4 states where village electrification was in the range of 81-90% and they were Jharkhand, Manipur, Meghalaya and Uttar Pradesh.                                                                                                                  d)There were 4 states where electrification of villages was in the range of 71-80% and they were Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Orissa and Tripura.                                                                                                                     Present govt says that their next target will be to   see and monitor that every house in all the villages across the country gets electric supply.
  2. The Central Govt has received additional 1.5 lakh Crore in direct taxes during 2017-18, and in the process they added record numbers of new filers. It has been learnt that the dept is still after about 68 lakhs people who have not filed their returns last year. This is due to information available for the people who file returns, whose tax is deducted at source, advance tax payers, dividend recipients over the last 3 years etc. In 2014-15 there were 6.8 Cr tax payers and  and in 2017-18 there are 9.3 Cr tax payers, it means of increase of 2.5 Cr additional tax payers in 3 years. This year govt had targeted additional 1.75 Cr assessees, out of which 1.o7 Cr have voluntarily filed the returns. Some of the potential assessees are being targeted through Non filter management system(NMS), that the tax dept has deployed successfully over the years. The main focus area was the people who have deposited Rs 10 lakhs or more in demonitised old currency but did not file their returns. From these list when messages were sent to these people two third people filed their  returns  and paid taxes. So the message to tax evader is that the govt is not going to leave you till so start paying taxes, as now govt has so many sources to get the information, and govt says special focus will be on those who indulge in high value transactions but do not file returns or do not disclose their income fully. It has been said that often spending pattern of these people does not tally with income disclosed in their tax returns.
  3. BJP- Shiv Sena Ties-Shiv Sena joined BJP govt at centre and Maharashtra state as junior partner very reluctantly as they did not have any other alternative. From the day 1 they were not happy with the alliance, specially in  Maharashtra where they thought they are getting very little say in govt matters. Their grudge have been that CM Fadnavis do not consult Sena ministers in policy matters. So from last two years they are behaving as opposition party rather than coalition partner, which is not liked by BJP. So in the state both the partners are unhappy with each other, and in the centre BJP is not bothered about Sena as they have majority without Sena also. But in state BJP is short of about 19 seats, and this is critical because NCP may be willing to support from outside but BJP is not interested in taking their support. So the both bickering partners have no choice  but stick with each other till next election in the state which is almost 18 months away. Now it has become a habit of Sena mouth piece news paper  Samna to keep on writing anti BJP articles in their news paper which is edited by their MP Sanjay Raut, Yesterday he wrote in Samna that BJP- Sena  tie up is fit for talaq (divorce), as both of them are working in different direction and which is not good for Maharashtra. My only concern is that if you are so worried about welfare of the people then why not break the ties and let the state go for fresh elections, but this thing will never happen as no body wants to go in for fresh elections. People of Maharashtra are watching the behaviour of both Sena & BJP and when the time comes they will decide. It all depends upon the next general elections at the centre, if BJP/NDA comes back to power then Sena will have no  alternative other then to stick with BJP to survive.

So what you say my friends.

Awaiting  your feed backs/views/comments.

BJP Shivsena alliance will not fight next elections together but it will depend on results whether they will join hands to form the government in Maharashtra.

    Though
it appeared that demonetisation has not achieved something tangible, same seems to be giving long term results of formalising all businesses and increasing direct taxes 😊
