Today I am writing the first blog in the year 2019, and friends I need your encouragement and blessings to continue.
With the General elections approaching fast, the political atmosphere in the country is getting hot in cold climate. Congress party is in upbeat mood with the victories in 3 states, which were earlier ruled by the BJP. The problem with the Congress is they promise so many things, but when the question of delivery comes they start making some excuses. During the recent elections also they promised across the board the loans of all the farmers will be waived off immediately after they come to power. Yes they announced the loan waiver, but with so many riders and clauses that farmers were taken back, and within 15 days of taking over resentment started among the farmers, if you go by the news reports.
Yesterday, on the first day of year 2019, PM Modi gave an interview to ANI, few of the things what he said clearly spelt what is going to be BJP’s strategy in the coming elections. Few of the points which he said are worth pondering over:
- Talking about mahaghatbandhan he said”Their single point agenda is Modi. Take any newspaper, 10 leaders of this alliance in different words are abusing Modi.”
- He attacked Congress as a party that prompted casteism, dynastic politics and nepotism. There are so many of their corrupted leaders on the bail, including the members of the family who ruled the country for generations.
- Regarding Demonitisation, he said he had warned the black money hoarders to come clean and announced the scheme for the same, but no one cared to listen. So it was necessary to do it to clean the system and take economy forward in proper way. He admitted it slowed down the growth due to change in the process.
- He criticised Congress’s loan waivers as lollypops and said a very small section of farmers benefited. On Cow vigilantism and lynchings, he added that No such incidents reflects well on civilised society, which is wrong and condemnable.
- Citing Soharabuddin case, he said it has proved by the judgement the Congress govt mis used its power and used CBI to file a false cases against BJP leaders. In Augusta Westland case, the middleman Michel has been extradicted from UAE to India and who represent him in the court is a Congress Lawyer. He further said that during Congress rule judges were selected based on their ideology and senior ones were superseded.
- He said that the issue of Triple Talaq is of gender equality and Sabarimala is of tradition, and they are 2 separate things. He emphasised that many Islamic countries including Pakistan have banned triple talaq, so iit is the issue of gender equality, matter of social justice. It is not an issue of faith. But the latest news on Sabrimala is that this morning 2 women named Bindu and Kanakdurga ( age between 40 to 50 years) enter the Sabrimala temple with Police escort, and performed pooja there.
- He also said that one surgical strike can not rein Pakistan, it will take long time to do that, as after this also Pakistan did nothing to stop cross border terrorism.
- He further added that Opposition by publishing fake surveys on social media, in which it is being predicted that BJP is going to lose many seats, which is just a ploy to attract more allies.
Reacting to PM’s interview, the spoke person of Congress commented that “PM did not address his govt’s failure to deliver on the promises it made in 2014. Congress also wants to call joint parliamentary probe on Rafale deal. PM has got no courage to face us in Parliament.”
My contention is when ever a PM or any other leader from Ruling party speak, they will only speak about their govt’s achievements and not about where they failed. Did ever Congress talked about their slogan of Garibi Hatao, started by Indira Gandhi in 1971 election, was the poverty ever eradicated from the country. OR did they ever talked about 2G Scam, CWG Scam, Coalgate scam during the campaigning of 2014 elections, so how do you expect BJP to speak about their failures. Secondly during the last 4 and half years of Parliament, Congress party has hardly allowed parliament to function and now they are asking the PM to face us in Parliament, so where they can abuse him and give bad words to the govt, which they are doing since 2014. It is a known fact that BJP and PM Modi came out with some vision in the last general elections, and after coming to power they started implementing it, which many people opposition leaders may not have liked it. But if you ask any Congress leader about their vision for the country in even 2020, they will not have any answer, their only slogan is Modi should go.
Now one thing is certain that this general election will be the dirtiest ever in the history of India , after independence

We think of our elections as a life and death issue but it is only the dance of democracy ; and at every stage the dancers vary but the dance goes on. About your article Anil, I think there is disappointment on both sides and so it may not be the dirtiest elections but the most despairing election as one doesn’t know who to vote for!
