Some interesting news items on this Wednesday of Jun 2019
1 In continuation of my yesterday’s write up on Kejriwal’s freebie offer to women, who will be allowed to travel free in buses and Metros in Delhi state. My contention is ‘ When will our politicians realise that freebies in longer run are very expensive’. Are we living in 19th century, when women hardly used to come out of their homes, so incentive is given to women to move out of house, And Delhi CM’s reasoning that this will provide additional security to the women. I fail to understand how this ferebi can ensure more safety to women. It looks like this is going to be election gimmick, as Delhi is going in for assembly elections in early next year. Kejriwal’s party in their manifesto of 2015, that they will provide 5000 buses more to streamline the transport problems of Delhites, they have done nothing on new buses provisions, instead DTC’s fleet has been depleted even more since.
To upgrade any city, the city needs basic and good infrastructure. There should be better policing, rather than less infrastructure. Delhi govt should provide more CCTV cameras, (which they promised in their 2015 manifesto) for women’s safety rather than providing free rides in Metros and DTC buses. The need of the hour is to improve the infra structure rather than wasting tax payer’s money on the freebies.
As law and order of Delhi is with Central govt, so Kejriwal will say that policing and security is central govt’s problem. The problem is that Kejriwal will never talk with Central govt on any issue, he thinks as CM of Delhi he is above central govt who has got the major control over some of the departments , which are part of Delhi governance.
What may be in Kejriwal’s mind is that by talking about freebies the public will forget about the other governance issues, where his govt has failed miserably. He is forgetting that public is not a fool, which has been proven recently when poor public declined and did not accept the offer of Rs 72,000 per annum , offered by Rahul Gandhi of Congress as freebies.
2 In early May, Head of Sanskrit Dept at Vikram University in MP was suspended after he posted on social media on 29th Apr 2019 that BJP would secure around 300 seats and NDA would cross the 300 mark in this election. Yesterday the Indore bench of MP High court stayed an order off Ujjain’s Vikram University Vice Chancellor, which suspended the Professor for violating the Election Commission’s model code of conduct, by predicting victory for BJP in Lok Sabha elections, and posting it on social media. The University has suspended the Professor after receiving complaint of Youth Congress leader, who asked that the Professor should be terminated for uploading posts favouring the BJP, which is in violation of EC’s moral code of conduct.
The Counsel for the Professor argued that the Professor was not a Govt servant, he is employed by the University and that he was not given any poll duty. Thus violation of the EC’s model code of conduct does not apply to him. The HC judge agreed with the Counsel of Professor and stayed the University’s order.
In my opinion it was height of foolishness on the part of VC of university to suspend him, may he was pressurised by the Congress govt of MP, In the end the Professor had the last laugh as his prediction was proven almost correct.
