Yesterday was good day for sports in India.  A brief description of what happened yesterday :

1. In cricket India won One Day series also with Sri Lanka , by beating them Yesterday India took an unbeatable lead of 3-0 in 5 match series.. In last two matches after loosing early wickets, India fought back  and clinched victories. In the second match India were 7 down while chasing and still 80 odd runs were required to win the match and it was veteran Dhoni who along with Bhuvnehwar Kumar  took India to victory without losing further wickets. In yesterday match also , India lost 4 wickets at an early stage of the match, and it was once again Dhoni who gave splendid support to Rohit Sharma who scored century and Dhoni himself scored a half century. Dhoni has given a fitting reply to all his detractors who had started saying that India should give chance to some other Wicket keeper batsman so that the same player can be groomed for next world cup in 2019. Agreed that Dhoni is the best keeper/batsman for limited over cricket, but he is 36 years of age now and to believe that he will continue with his form for next 2 years is asking for too much. He may or may not be able to sustain his form and his fitness levels for world cup. My belief is that we must also groom some one else also as keeper batsman as stand by, the best course should be to start  now and give some one else a chance for remaining two matches of this series with Sri Lanka, as series has been already decided so  we have nothing to lose.
2. Badminton- Yesterday was a rare sight when 2 Indian  ladies player stood on podium  to receive medals in World Badminton championship and there was no Chinese lady on the podium and China has dominated the ladies  section of the championship for a long time. What a final match between Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara  and India’s PV Sindhu which lasted for almost  90 minutes,  a very rare thing in badminton when match takes this much time and score of 21-19, 20-22 and 22-20 in favour of Japanese player speaks itself as how the match was closely fought. Each and every point was fought fiercely and some times the point was contested for more than 40 shots and the longest point  was for 73 shots, really a rare sight in modern badminton. In my life time I have never seen a badminton match that too in final, where each and every game went to maximum distance and in every game the winning margin was  2 points only, which is the minimum margin for victory in a game. In the end it was Japanese girl who prevailed, as she had better stamina compared to  Indian girl, as Sindhu in the later stages of the 3rd game  was feeling tired and in between points she was going out of the court to have drink and catch up her breath, for this chair umpire once warned her and on the second occasion she was shown a red card for the infringement. Hats off to Nozomi Okuhara who beat current World and Olympic Champion Carolina Marin of Denmark in quarter finals, Saina Nehwal of India in Semi finals and PV Sindhu in finals, although she was seeded 9 much below the seeding of  Marin (No.1) and Sindhu (No. 4). All credit to PV Sindhu also who lost narrowly, but she made the final match a memorable one. I, being an avid cricket fan, never even once switched the channels to see the score of cricket match, and was hooked to the game of badminton yesterday.
