The Movies-Nobody Wanted

In today’s weekend blog, I am writing on Bollywood.

Recently, Bollywood has shown a lack of concern for quality content. Driven solely by numbers, Bollywood excessively focused on box-office collections, disregarding the importance of well-written scripts and fascinating movies. From dull script to regressive and toxic characters, certain movies should have been discarded during the discussion phase only.

Given below are some of recent Bollywood movies that they should have never been made:

1 Student of the Year 2 (2019)- The plot of this movie makes no sense. Two girls- Tara Sutaria and Ananya Pandey-fight the eternal female battle over one guy-Tiger Shroff. With no focus on education, every character is dressed like model. Just because it was backed by Dharma Productions (Karan Johar’s banner) with nepo kids, it doesn’t mean the world can’t live without this stupid and faltu movie.

2 Kalank (2019)- Another multi-starrer by Karan Johar that no one asked for. It is one of those movies where the makers gave more importance to clothes than the script. The movie is located in some undefined years in British rule so no one can really guess when exactly the movie is happening. Even with actors like Alia Bhatt, Madhuri Dixit, Varun Dhawan and Sanjay Dutt, the makers couldn’t save the movie. It was big disaster on box office.

3 Bharat (2019)- The movie had so many problems-but the biggest one was the script  itself. Though the story is meant to be about the journey of our country, the only glory we see is that of Salman Khan. The movie is all about Salman Khan with the few women surrounding him playing side characters. People just had one phrase for the movie-“Not Required”.

4 Kabir Singh (2019)- This movie is an ugly reminder of how Bollywood shamelessly celebrates toxic characters as heroes. From promoting violence to toxic behaviours, this movie shot women’s empowerment in the face. While Bollywood may have justified the harassment and toxicity in the name of plot building or profits, the reality is our society and filmgoers never needed this movie.

5 Radhe (2021)- It is a sequel to Salman Khan’s 2009 blockbuster movie ‘Wanted’. This movie is another loud,  pointless paean to the cult of Salman Khan, who once again plays superhero and savior. “Not required’ was public’s judgment.

6 Coolie No. 1 (2020)- This remake of Govinda’s Coolie No. 1 by same director David Dhawan, wasn’t even close to its original version. Makers need t understand that fancy locations and costumes aren’t the only things that make a movie. Serious, another movie that was not at all required.

7 Baaghi 3 (2020)- This movie had nothing new to impress the audience and the critics. With a pretty similar storyline to Baaghi 1 and Baaghi 2, there was hardly anything to watch in this movie. I wish someone could have told makers that a great physique of hero does not make a movie good, acting, screenplay and dialogues do.

8 Love Aaj Kal 2 (2020)- Not a patch on earlier movie Love Aaj Kal of Deepika Padukone and Saif Ali Khan. Here makers spent more time creating unnecessary hype abut te relationship between lead pair Sara Ali Khan and Kartik Aryan than working on the movie. That is the reason why this movie feels like torture and sheer waste of time and money.

9 Khali Peeli (2020)- Do I need to tell you that why we did not need this movie? From the problematic song to awful acting skills of Ananya Paandey and Ishaan Khattar, there is hardly anything that doesn’t disappoint the audience. Another movie that we could have done without!

10 Dabang 3 (2019)- Salman Khan’s Chulbul  Pandey returned for the third time. But who wanted him back? Dabang 3 is the flashback story of Chulbul Pandey which no one wanted to know. Isn’t It time Salman Khan realized that the audience just cannot be served same shit again and again, which he thinks is wonderful idea. I have heard that he is going to make Dabang 4 also.

11 Sadak 2 (2020)- Just like Kalank, Sadak 2 is an ideal example of how makers can’t serve anything irrelevant to the Indian audience anymore. Even with the most popular Bollywood actors like Alia Bhatt, Sanjay Dutt, and Aditya Roy Kapoor, the movie just collapsed at the box office. The movie was disaster because it lacked everything-poor screenplay, unengaging script, and lack of direction.

12 Race 3 (2018)- A film that, who have seen this, wish to erase from their memory. Compared to Race 1 and Race 2, this one starring Salman Khan, Bobby Deol, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Anil Kapoor was an absolute disaster.

13 Houseful 4 (2019)- Some franchises should stop right after the first film, and Houseful is one of them. Its fourth installment was a reincarnation comedy, but the audience did not find it funny, and movie was washout at the box office.

14 Animal (2023)- From a bad screenplay to alack of character development, many blunders, a wasted talented star cast, and lack of emotional connection, the movie was not up to the mark, although at the box office it did wonders. The movie had endless misogyny and violence without a strong storyline. The movie becomes excessively gory and mindless, to the extent that even men have taken a stand against the toxic saga. It is yet another film created solely for box-office collections with your sensibility going for the toss.

Friends, if you feel that there are more such movies, please do write in the comment box at the end  of the blog.

Waiting for your feedback.
