My varied thoughts on this first Tuesday of May 2019.
A As expected Supreme Court (SC) panel clears Chief Justice of India (CJI) in sexual harassment complain. A in house committee comprising three SC judges, dismissed a complaint by sacked SC woman employee against CJI. The in house committee has found no substance in the allegations contained in the complaint dated 19th Apr 2019 of a a former employee of the SC.
What was the complainant reaction, she said “ I am highly disappointed and dejected, and feel gross injustice has been done to me as a woman. I do not know whether call records of the CJI were called for by the committee which would substantiate some of the facts mentioned in the complaint. Today my worst fears have come true, and all hopes of justice and redress from the committee has been shattered.”
After the this judgement, an overwhelming majority of SCC judges expressed the solidarity with CJI. There was news in the media that SC Justice Dhanajay Chandrachud has written a letter to the head of this enquiry panel stating that there should be alteration in the inquiry procedure, and panel should not proceed with ex parte decision, since the complainant had opted out of the panel, and ex parte decision would hurt the institution like SC. He further added there was no harm in providing legal assistance to the complainant during the inquiry. While opting out of the panel she said that she has lost confidence in this panel, and secondly she said that her lawyer should be allowed to sit with you, as the members of the committee are highly qualified in legal field and she needs legal guidance, which was denied by the panel. When the news of Justice Chandrachud’s letter came out, that time there was news that 17 of 22 judges are supporting this letter.
It only means that SC is also a divided house, and all SC judges do not speak in the same language. Even last year 4 SC judges held a press conference on the issue of working procedure of then CJI Dipak Misra. And present CJI was the leader of that dissenting group.
B So at last IPL has reached the stage of playoffs. The teams who have reached in playoffs are
1 Mumbai Indians (MI) with 18 points
2 Chennai Super Kings (CSK) with 18 points
C Delhi Capitals (DC) with 18 points
D Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) with 12 points.
As the top three have identical points, their positions have been decided by their Net Run Rate. Surprisingly this is the first time in the history of IPL that top three teams ended on the same points. Secondly even teams finishing at 5th & 6th position also had the same points as of team standing at no. 4 ranking.
So now in Qualifier 1, MI will meet CSK on 7th May 2019 at Chennai, and the winner of this match will qualify to play final match.
On 8th May 2019, DC will meet SRH in Eliminator match. The loser of this match will be eliminated from IPL 2019. This match will bbe played at Vizag.
The winner of Eliminator will meet loser of Qualifier 1, on 10th May 2019 in Qualifier 2. This match will also be played at Vizag
The winner of Qualifier 2 will play against winner of Qualifier 1 in the finals on 12th May 2019 at Hyderabad.
So friends, which is your favourite team who will be crowned as IPL 2019 Champion.

Sadly, SC is acting as a khap panchayat!

Justice Chandrachud has a point in what he says.
This year’s IPL was full of surprises.
