Twisha Sharma Case

Friends, I am back.

Last week, one news item was all over the media, and that was the TWISHA SHARMA case.

The Twisha Sharma case refers to the ongoing investigation into the suspicious death of Twisha Sharma, a 33-year-old MBA graduate, former corporate professional, and former Miss Pune contestant. She was found dead by hanging on 12th May 2026, at her marital home in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal, just five months after marriage. The case has triggered widespread public outrage, protests, and intense media scrutiny due to chilling text messages left behind by Twisha and the high-profile background of her in-laws.

Key Details of the Case

  • The Marriage: Originally from Noida (UP), Twisha married Samrath Singh, a Bhopal-based advocate on 12th December 2025, after meeting him on a dating app in 2024.
  • High Profile In-laws; Her husband is a lawyer, and her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, is a retired District Sessions Judge.
  • The Death: On the night of 12th May 2026, Twisha was found hanging. She was declared dead on arrival at a local hospital.

Allegations By Twisha’s Family

Twisha’s family, including her brother, Major Harshit Sharma of the Indian Army, has completely rejected the suicide narrative and has accused her husband and her mother-in-law of murder and severe dowry harassment. Their primary allegations include:

  • Forced Abortion: The family alleges that when Twisha became pregnant, her husband and in-laws questioned the child’s legitimacy, subjected her to extreme mental torture, and forced her to undergo a Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) against her will just a week before her death.
  • Financial and Dowry Extortion; her husband allegedly pressured her to transfer investments and shares worth Rs 20 lakh, gifted by her father, into a joint account.
  • Physical assault: The preliminary post-mortem report from AIIMS Bhopal noted that while the cause of death was hanging, there were multiple injuries, wounds, and bruises on other parts of the body.

Chilling Final Messages and Timeline

Following her death, Twisha’s final WhatsApp and Instagram messages to her mother and friends surfaced, providing evidence of her severe distress:

  • I am trapped, bro” : In an Instagram text to her friend, she wrote, “I am trapped bro, Bas Tu Mat Phasna (Just don’t get trapped yourself), I will call when time is right”
  • My Life is Hell”: Messages to her mother revealed she felt suffocated ( Mujhe bahut zyada ghutan ho rahi hai maa”), detailing that her husband refused to talk to her and treated her cruelly in private.
  • The Final Call: On 12th May at 10.05 pm, Twisha called her mother, crying about the abuse, but abruptly hung up when her husband entered the room. By 10.20, her mother-in-law called the family back to state that Twisha was ‘not breathing’.

Counterclaims by the In-Laws

Twisha’s mother-in-law, the retired judge, has denied all harassment and murder allegations. She claimed:

  • Twisha suffered from severe psychiatric issues and was taking heavy medications.
  • Twisha was a ‘drug addict’ who suffered from trembling hands and irritability when experiencing withdrawal.
  • She claimed Trisha voluntarily aborted the child because she did not want to step into the role of housewife.

Twisha’s family has vehemently denied these claims, stating that the in-laws are attempting to malign her character to save themselves.

Current Status of the Investigation

  • SIT Investigation: The Bhopal Police have constituted a 6-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct an impartial probe.
  • Husband Absconding: An FIR has been registered under BNS for dowry death and abetment to suicide. Her husband fled from the scene and was initially absconding for few days, but was later arrested on 22nd May 2026.
  • CCTV Footage: Leaked CCTV footage has emerged showing Twisha walking towards the terrace alone, followed by footage of her husband and two other men attempting failed CPR on the staircase and carrying her body down.
  • Family Protests: Fearing that local police may be influenced by the retired judge’s powerful legal network, Twisha’s family staged a major protest outside the MP Chief Minister’s residence. They had refused to perform her last rites until her body was transferred to AIMS Delhi for an independent secondary post-mortem examination. Which later happened, and the last rites were performed yesterday.

In the meantime, the Supreme Court (SC) has taken suo motu cognisance of Twisha Sharma case, which has caused nationwide outrage over allegations of dowry harassment and abetment to suicide. The hearing of this will take place on 25th May 2026 (today).

On Friday, the MP High Court has issued notice on petitions challenging the anticipatory bail granted to retired judge (Mother-in-law of Twisha).

Let us wait and watch for further development in this case.
