I could not publish my last weekend blog, due to personal preoccupation, so continuing with my list of top 100 Hindi films. This weekend I am in the first decade of new millennium ie 2000-2009, and the top films of this decade were

1. Lagaan(2001)– Produced (P) by Aamir Khan, Directed (D) by Aushutosh Gowarikar. This film is about bunch of villagers led by Bhuvan(Aamir Khan) who accepts a bet of British Officer to defeat team of Britishers in game of cricket, and if the villagers win they do not have to pay the lagaan for 3 years.How the villagers build their cricket team and how they won the match is the film.All the members of the ensemble cast acted superbly, wonderful music by AR Rehman. The cricket match was filmed  very well and in the theatre you get the feeling as if you are watching the live telecast of a cricket match.
2. Baghbaan(2003)– D by Ravi Chopra- A story of retied bank manager and his wife, who were forced to separate by their 4 sons. During separation he writes his story in a fictional way, with some well wisher’s help   it got published as novel and became best seller. In the end couple disown their sons. Wonderful acting by Amitabh Bachchan and ably supported by Hema Malini, Salman Khan, Paresh Rawal & others.
3. Koi Mil Gaya(2003)-P & D by Raakesh Roshan. Story is about an Indian scientist who is able to contact some aliens, but dies in a accident, is survived by his mother and son(mentally immature). How the son contacts aliens and they come to their town and one alien is left behind. Rest of the story is about friendship between alien and the son, and how alien imparts super powers to him. In the end to save the alien he again contacts other alien who come back and take this alien back to their planet. Fantastic acting by Hrithik Roshan as mentally challenged person.Two sequels were made of this film known as Krishh and Krishh 3.
4. Munnabhai MBBS (2003) -D by Raju Hirani. Story is about gangster Munnabhai, who lies to his villager father that he has become doctor in the city. When he is exposed in front of his parents, he is determined to become doctor any how. Rest of the story is about  how Munnabhai transforms the atmosphere in Medical college by his antics is to be seen. Sanjay Dutt lived the role of Munnabhai.                                 Lagge Raho Munnabhai (2006)-D by Raju Hirani. 2nd film on Munnabhai. In this film Munnabhai, who is a gangster adopts Gandhigiri to solve the problems of other, as he feels he sees Gandhiji who always advises him to take the right path. Again Sanjat Dutt acted wonderfully.
5. Sarkar (2005)– D by Ram Gopal Varma. Film inspired by Shiv Sena leader Bal Thackerey. Story of underworld leader, who controls political leaders of the state.How his enemies starts controlling the life of his son, and want the son to kill his father but who is saved by his other son. Splendid acting by Amitabh Bachchan as underworld don and ably supported by ensemble cast.                                                              Sarkar Raj (2009)– D by Ram Gopal Varma  A sequel to  earlier film Sarkar. In this film the son is running day to day business and father is guiding figure. How the son is killed in political one upmanship battle for the the top post of Chief Minister is rest of the story.
6.  Black (2005)– D by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Story is about a deaf/dumb and blind girl, whose parent finds a tutor to guide the girl. How the tutor who is old guides the girl to learn the basic things and study. How the girl graduates from college. In the end tutor is affected by alzheimer disease and how girl communicates with him and wants to treat him.Wonderful acting by both Amitabh Bachchan & Rani Mukherjee in the lead role of tutor and handicapped girl.
7. Rand De Basanti (2006)-D by Rakyesh O Mehra. Story is about group of college friends who by accident starts acting in a documentary  film on the life of Bhagat Singh and other revolutionaries. How with this film they are affected in real life, and they literally try to recreate the actions of those revolutionaries in this modern life.Splendid acting by ensemble cast led by Aamir Khan, chart buster music by AR Rehman.
8. Omkara(2006)– D by Vishal Bhardwaj- Adapted from Shakespeare’s play Othello. Ajay Devgan plays Omi whose henchmen abducts a bride  with whom Omi falls in  love. How his henchmen take use of his weakness and plot his down fall. Wonderful acting by ensemble cast led by Ajay Devgan, Kareena kapoor and Saif Ali Khan.
9. Khosla Ka Ghosla (2007)– D by Dipankar Banerjee. Story is about a plot of land which is allotted to a middle class man, but it is grabbed by by some Land Shark. Rest of the story is about how the middle class man’s son and his friends fool the Land Shark and gets the plot back in their control. Fine acting by ensemble cast led by Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Vinay Pathak & others.
10. Taare Zameen Par (2007)– D by Aamir Khan. A film about a dyslexic child who is ridiculed by his parents and class mates and as a punishment is sent to boarding school. In the boarding school, his art teacher becomes his mentor and brings him out of dyslexia. Fine acting by Darshhel Safary as affected child and Aamir Khan as his mentor.
11. Chak De India (2007)- D by Shamit Amin. A story of fallen hockey player Kabir Khan, played by Shah Rukh Khan, who coaches young women’s  hockey team and instill discipline in them and made then World Champion. Wonderful performance by Shah Rukh Khan, and all the girls who were part of the hockey team.
12. Jab We Met(2007)– D by Imtiaz Ali.  Story is about how  Kareena Kapoor while returning to her home town meets Shahid Kapoor.  Shahid starts liking her, but she is in love with someone else.Rest of the story  is about how they meet again and how now kareena also falls in love with him, and how they get married in the end.
13. Guzaarish(2009)– D by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Story is about a neck down paralytic person(Hrithik Roshan), who applies to court   for euthanasia, ie to allow him to die with medical help, as he can not be cured now. Wonderful acting by Hrithik Roshan and ably supported by Aishwariya Rai as his nurse.
14. 3 Idiots ( 2009)-  D by Raju Hirani- Story is about 3 friends Aamir Khan, R Madhvan and Sharman Joshi who meet while doing Engineering. After passing how the other two loses contact with Aamir, and how they find him in the end , along with his lady love Kareena Kapoor, is the main story,. The film makes some valuable observations on the current  education system prevailing in India. Fine acting by ensemble cast led by Aamir Khan.

Other honourable mentions during this decade;     Kaho Naa Pyar Hai           ( 2000), Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (2001), Dil Chahata hai (2001), Company (2002), Hum Tum  (2004), Veer Zara (2004).
