As you all are aware that the songs are integral part of Indian films, in whatever languages it is produced. Some times you must have realised that some songs are unnecessarily introduced in the films, whether they are required for the film’s story to move forward or not but they are in the film. And there are some songs you like them better because they fit into the situation in the film’s story, and they do not break the narration of film’s story and actually take it forward.
Today I am writing about few songs, who according my opinion were best suited for film’s particular situation. Please note that songs are listed in the random order.
1 Raja Ki Aayegi Barat- Aah (Film F), Raja Nawathe (Director D), Lata Mangeshkar (Singer S), Shailendra (Lyricist-L), Shankar Jaikishan (Music Director).
Raj Kapoor, gets the marriage proposal from Vijayalaxmi’s family. Raj Kapoor writes a letter to her, but she is not interested and asks her younger sister Nargis to reply. During the exchange of letters, they fell in love. But Raj is diagnosed with TB (during 50s it was deadly disease), he slowly withdraws away from Nargis. In the mean time Vijayalaxmi happen to see Raj and agrees to marry him, and convey the same to her parents. During one of the gathering, when Nargis’s full family is there and Raj is present there with his friend Pran. In this gathering Nargis sings this song.. “Raja Ki Aayegi Barat, Rangeeli Hogi Raat, Magan Main Nachoongi”. This songs depicts the sorrow, pathos of Nargis, who has been shown even feeling happy for her sister.

2 Waqt Ne Kiya Kya Haseen Sitam- Kaagaz Ke Phool (F), Guru Dutt (D), Geeta Dutt (S), Kaifi Azmi (L), SD Burman (MD)
The story is set in pre partition India, Guru Dutt is a film Director, who accidently meets Waheeda Rahman and offers her his overcoat as she is shivering in rainy winter. In the overcoat she finds her visiting card, and when she comes to studio to return the same, and after seeing her in camera, Guru Dutt offers her role of heroine in his film. Guru Dutt is having a troubled marriage with Veena and also has a teen aged daughter Naaz. Slowly romance develops between them. Once when they were going for out door shooting their car meets with an accident, and their romance’s news is leaked into the press, which is not liked by Veena and her family, and specially by his daughter Naaz. When next time they meet at the studio set in early morning before shooting, this song is played in the back ground “ Waqt Ne Kiya Kya Haseen Sitam, Tum Rahe Na Tum Hum Rahe Na Hum”. This is one of the best song , which is shot brilliantly by cinematographer VK Murthy. You have to see this song to feel his brilliance, as the movie was shot in 1958-59.

3 Sub Kuch Seekha Humne, Na Seekhi Hoshiyari- Anari (F), Hrishikesh Mukherji (D), Mukesh (S), Shailendra ( J), Shankar Jaikishan (MD).
Raj Kapoor is poor person, working in factory of Motilal, who is uncle of Nutan. Once Raj meets Nutan, but she pretends to be maid, and introduces her maid Shobha Khote as her Boss, who is Motilal’s niece. Slowly romance develops between them. Once it so happens, that Raj is called at Motilal’s residence for some work, and Motilal invites him inside by saying today is my niecce’s birthday. When Raj enters the hall, he is surprised to find that he has been made fool all the times, as Nutan is the niece and Shobha Khote is her maid. At that occasion he sings this song “ Sub Kuch Seekha humne, Na Seekhi Hoshiyari, Such Hai Duniya Walon Ke Hum Hain Anari”.

4 Mera Yaar Bana Dulha, Aur Phool Khile Hain Dilke- Choudhavin Ka Chand (F), M Sadiq (D), Mohd Rafi (S), Shakeel Badayuni (L), Ravi (MD).
Guru Dutt, Rehman and Johny Walker are three friends. Rehman happens to see Waheeda Rahman one day and he starts liking her. Guru Dutt is from very poor family and after his parents death it was Rehman who supported his friend. Johny Walker is son of Police office, who is in love with Kothewali dancer Minoo Mumtaz, knowing fully well that his father will not agree for his marriage with his beloved. Once a marriage proposal comes to Rehman’s mother for him, without knowing the proposal is from Waheeda’s family, Rehman says no to the proposal instead suggests the name of Guru Dutt. On the occasion of Guru Dutt’s marriage with Waheeda, Johny Walker sings this song “ Mera Yaar Bana Hai Dulha Aur Phool Khile Hain Dil Ke, Are Meri Bhi Yaadi Ho Jaaye Dua Karo Sub Milke”

5 Roop Tera Mastana, Pyar Mera Deewana- Aradhana (F), Shakti Samant (D), Kishore Kumar (S), Anand Bakshi (L), SD Burman (MD).
Rajesh Khanna, who is an Air Force Pilot, sees Sharmila Tagore sitting in train by window side, while he is with his friend in a jeep. Sharmila is daughter of a Doctor, and once Rajesh comes to their house for some treatment for injury and sees Sharmila once again there. Soon they start meeting each other and fall in love. Sharmila’s father agree for their marriage. Once while they were together in the evening they get caught in rain storm, and they take shelter in small hotel. As Sharmila is completely wet she changes into a big towel, and Rajesh is also shirtless, and there is fire burning inside the room, and then this song. In the film it is shown as back ground song “ Roop Tera Mastana Pyar Mera Deewana, Bhool Koi Humse Na Ho Jaye”. And the Bhool happens, which is part of remaining film.

6 Tu Kahan Yeh Bata, Is Nashili Raat Mein- Tere Ghar Ke Samne (F), Vijay Anand (D), Mohd Rafi (S), Hasrat Jaipuri (L), SD Burman (MD)
Dev Anand is an architect, who is designing bungalow of Nutan’s family. Nutan’s father and Dev’s father are not on best of the terms and they always find an occasion to down grade each other. It so happens that their housing plots are adjoining each other and both select the same design for their bunglows. During the course of construction Dev and Nutan fall in love. Till that time Nutan is not aware Dev’s true identity, that who are his parents. Once in summer Nutan goes to Simla with her parents, as Dev is missing her, so one day he drives down to Simla on his scooter to meet her. After reaching Simla, he is in a problem of how to find Nutan as he only knows that they have bungalow on Mall Road. So after reaching Mall Road in the night, he starts singing this song- “ Tu Kahan Yeh Bata Is Nashili Raat Mein, Maane Na Mera Dil Deewana.”

7 Zindagi Ka Safar hai Yeh Kaisa Safar- Safar (F), Asit Sen (D), Kishore Kumar (S), Indeevar (L), kalyanji Anandji (MD).
Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore are both medical students. Once Sharmila sees her sketch which is made by Rajesh, she fires him. He says that he has made various sketches as per his sub conscious mind, and invites her to his home to see the sketches/paintings. She is spell bound as she sees various sketches/paintings of herself in various poses where emphasis is always on her eyes. Slowly they become friend and slowly finds they are falling in love. Then disaster strikes, in the form of Rajesh is diagnosed with cancer with only few months to live. Sharmila is unaware of this, as shown in the film Sharmila is entering his building and Rajesh is singing this song in very sad mood “ Zindagi Ka Safar, Hai Yeh Kaisa Safar, Koi Samjha Nahin Koi Jaana Nahin”.
