In continuation of my last weekend blog on milestones of Bollywood during last decade, here is the next part of the same.
Newcomer of the Decade : Bhumi Pednekar
She really had the guts to make her debut in the most unconventional movie of the decade, in which the main female lead character (Heroine) was overweight by any standard. She had to gain weight to perform this character, and her eagerness to transform into her character may not always find favour, but her talent is unquestioned. Masses could not recognise her when in her subsequent film, which was two year later released. And then she never looked back.
Debutant Directors of the Decade:
Directors like Vikrmaditya Motwane (Udaan, Lootera, Trapped), Abhishek Chaubey (Ishqiya, Dedh Ishqiya, Udta Punjab, Sonchiriya), Shakun Batra (Ek Main Aur Ek Tu, Kapoor & Sons), Gauri Shinde (English Vinglish, DearZindagi), Nitesh Tiwari (chiller, Dangal, Chhichore), Ashwini Iyer Tiwari (Nil Batte Sannata, Bareilly Ki Barfi), made their first movie in this decade and established themselves.
Word of the Decade: Nepotism:
Kangana Ranaut accused Karan Johar for nepotism, when she appeared on his chat show ‘Koffee with Karan’. After that so many other stars also spoke about nepotism. Whether the Star Kids have it easier than outsiders is matter of debate, but this debate has not lost steam since.
Obsession of the Decade :Taimur Ali Khan (Tim):
The sun cannot set until the paparazzi hounds little Tim or his cute mug splashed in media.
It all started in 2016 after Kareena and Saif welcomed their bonny boy into the world.
From the crazy uproar over his name to the nation’s bizarre fixation over his pictures, the obsession continues.
Moment of the Decade: #MeToo:
Actress Tanushree Dutta’s allegations over Nana Patekar’s sexual misconduct during the filming of ‘ Horn Ok Please’ kickstarted India’s #MeToo movement echoing the universal feeling of women to feel safe on work and set.
Many more names, including film-makers Vikas Bahl, Sajid Khan, Anu Malik and many more have cropped up since., and more ladies came out with their accusation.
A few got dropped out of projects, but justice remains a far-off dream.
Love me, Hate me, can not ignore me Celebrity of Decade: Kangana Ranaut:
You’ll find entire lists on Kangana’s controversies, her sister and manager Rangoli’s aggressive tweets.
You’ll also find lists on how she inspires us, her best performances.
It’s a complicated celebrity-audience relationship, but there’s simply no ignoring Kangana’s strange attraction.
Surprise package of the Decade: Deepika Padukone:
She made a sparkling debut in 2007 film ‘Om Shanti Om’ and then… nothing.
Until Cocktail came out in 2012 and showed us a new, improved, wonderful fulfilment of the promise she made in her debut movie.
With films like Piku, Chennai Express, Tamasha, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Goliyon Ki Raas Leela-Ram Leela, Bajirao Mastani, Finding Fanny, Padmaavat, she just gets better and better.
Comeback of the Decade: Sridevi:
It’s still impossible to believe Sridevi is no longer among us.
But her work on screen makes her immortal and we would rather focus on that.
Her return to screen in English Vinglish followed by Mom just proved no matter how long one’s absence, when you’re as good as Sridevi, it’s worth every second.
Dancing queen of the Decade : Katrina Kaif:
From Sheila ki Jawani to Kaala Chashma, Katrina danced her way through the decade.
With those killer legs and abs, it was pretty much a walk in the park.
Dialogue of the Decade: Tumse Na Ho Payega:
Three dialogues became very famous during this decade- Sonakshi Sinha’s ‘ Thappad Se Nahin Pyar Se Dar Lagta Hai’ (Dabang), then Vidya Sinha’s ‘ Picture teen kaaran se Chalti Hai Entertainment, Entertainment & Entertainment aur main Entertainment Hoon’ (Dirty Picture). But finally the dialogue from ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ when Tigmanshu Dhulia coolingly telling Nawazuddin Siddiqui ‘Tumse Na Ho Payega’ is that kind of emotion in the line and that goes viral.
So friends how do you find these milestone in the Bollywood during last decade.
Awaiting your views/comments/feed backs.
