Animal Slaughter

There has been hue and cry in many states, specially opposition ruled ones, about Central govt’s order of banning sale of cattle/animals for slaughter at livestock fairs and melas, or any where else. According to me this ban has been taken unilaterally without considering views of  states. There are so many communities in each and every state those who are meat eaters. I have following points

  1. Centre has not specified which animals can not be sold for slaughter.
  2. I understand, the govt for the obvious reasons, have banned the cow slaughter. So agreed cows are not to be sold for slaughter, now the meat which is classified as Beef can be obtained from slaughtering Cows, Bulls, Buffaloes. The cow slaughter was banned earlier, it means now bulls and buffaloes also can not be slaughtered. So where do the Beef eaters go, can someone throw a light on this matter,
  3. In the cattle fair even goats, pigs, lambs and sheep are also sold, if these are also not to be slaughtered, so what about mutton and pork  eaters.
  4. Thank god Chicken and fish do not come into animal category, next we may find one day they are also banned.

I do not know ,which ministry in Central govt is taking all these decisions. It is not easy to change the food habits of crores of people, knowing that these eating habits are centuries old. For all those fanatic hindus , who are after propagating this ban, I wish to inform them, even in good old days all the Hindu Kings used to hunt these animals and slaughter them for eating. I accept that cow is a  sacred animals for most of hindus, but leaving cow the non vegetarian hindus eat meat of other animals. One more question if you do not slaughter these animals, is the govt going to open old age homes for animals, even after the ban of cow slaughter the cattle breeder are finding difficult to maintain the aged cows. It has been widely world wide accepted practice that when cattle’s usefulness is over then they are send for slaughtering.

So friends, what do you feel on this matter, please share your views/comments.

Such kind of incidences or decisions are only taken where there is a single party govt in the center. For better organisation it is always better to have a strong opposition. While taking decision there should always be clarity for others to follow.

But single party govt should also think about people in general, and not about their party’s agenda. BJP has already banned cow slaughter, then why this drama.

Today’s editorial in the TOI talks the same about a party that promised minimum governance now poking their noses into everything that doesn’t concern them. Unfortunately there is no strong opposition to stop this tide of interference. Great article Anil!
