Presidential Elections

There are lot of activities happening in political circles regarding the candidate for next president. Sonia Gandhi is trying to build a opposition parties’ concensus, but when she called the luncheon party last week few of the opposition parties leaders attended, like Laloo Prasad, Leaders fromNCP, DMK, TMC, CPM and SP.  Nitish Kumar did not attend and BJD never responded, AIDMK ignored. The present situation indicates that NDA has mustered the majority for winning the Presidential election, and Sonia Gandhi for heck of opposing is trying to put up a candidate, but what ever name she is proposing are not ready to contest including Sharad Pawar. NDA has still not finalised the name of their candidate.

But who should be the next president of the country?

According to me the next President should be non political, like Vajpayeeji selected missile man APJ Abdul Kalam and he proved to be best President in recent times. Congress when ever they are in power always select political candidate from the beginning ie 1952, except S Radhakrishnan in 1962, but at that time Nehru did not have any choice as Radhakrishnan was Vice President for two terms under first President Rajendra Prasad.

Top most candidate, who is non political, can be only one person and he is RATAN TATA. A man whose integrity is vouched by the whole world, who is an honest businessman, philanthropist and respected by all in India. He has made Tata brand famous all over the world and Tata group companies are operating in more than 100 countries in the world.

There is also a rumour in political circle that for political reason PM Modi may opt for candidate from schedule tribe, and the person who is zeroed is Ms Draupadi Murmu, a tribal, who is from Odisha and was MLA in Odisha  assembly for 10 years, and was also National Executive member of BJP’s ST Morcha. Presently she is governor of Jharkhand. NDA might be feeling that being from schedule tribe, all other political parties including opposition parties will  find it difficult in opposing her candidature.

So friends, please comment who will you prefer as next President of the country, not necessarily from above mentioned names , it can be any one else.

Earlier also I remember that I had proposed Shri Ratan Tata to be nominated for Presidential candidate, five years ago in T O I. My preference remains intact for the great personality who always kept India first in his every move. A rare personality who happens to be with us today, shouldn’t be ignored for the top post who deserves to be representative of our Great Nation India. Jai Hind Jai Bharat. Vande Matarum.

My preference will always be a non political person for the post of Indian President. But the fact remains that all eligible great persons would want their election unopposed / by consensus.
Unfortunately, as long as Narendra Modi is the head of the government, such consensus looks not likely, at least till NDA has over 50 % of the votes of the Electoral College
