So Bihar politics has completed full circle in four years back. What an irony- friend turned foe and again turned friend. Four year backs in 2013, as soon as BJP announced Narendra Modi as their PM candidate, Nitish Kumar started saying he can not back Narendra Modi for PM’s post, because of Gujarat communal riots, therefore he broke the alliance with BJP in Bihar and took the outside support of RJD and Congress to run the govt till next state assembly election. And before state assembly election in 2015 Nitish Kumar’s party JDU, RJD(Laloo’s party) and Congress formed a Grand alliance called “Mahaghatbandhan” to fight election against BJP and won comfortably.
My few observations on this issue:
- When he took support of RJD in 2013, Nitish was knowing that Laloo and his party men are corrupt but he still went ahead and joined hand with RJD to survive. Immediately afterwards Laloo was convicted in Fodder scam case and barred from contesting elections.
- In 2014, Nitish Kumar accusations against Modi were not liked by public and Modi and BJP won the General Elections comfortably and Modi became PM of the country.
- Contrary to Modi and BJP’s expectations, Mahaghatbandhan won the Bihar assembly elections and Nitish was once again became of CM of Bihar.. Laloo managed to get his son Tejashwi Deputy CM post and other son ministerial berth.
- During this time Modi started gaining popularity nation and world wide and he was counted among the most influential leaders of the world.
- In the mean time with their success in Bihar, Mahaghatbandhan slowly started talking of complete opposition unity and indirectly started projecting Nitish as the PM candidate for 2019 General Elections
- But everything went phut ,when Modi and BJP won the state assembly elections in UP, Uttrakhand with unprecedented victories and managed to form govt in Goa and Manipur. They only lost elections in Punjab where they were junior partner in alliance with Akali Dal, and Congress formed the govt.
- Immediately after this BJP won Delhi Municipal Elections, without Modi campaigning in the city of Delhi, where AAP had won 67 out of 70 seats about 15 months back.
- Now few months back CBI started an investigation against Laloo and his family charging them making undue profits from Railway properties when Laloo was Railway Minister in UPA govt. A FIR was filed by CBI , accusing Laloo’s son Tejashwi amassing wealth more than his known source of income.
- This act of CBI led to BJP and other opposition parties in Bihar demanding Tejashwi to step down as Dy CM pending judgement, which RJD kept on refusing that they are only answerable to people of Bihar.
- At the same time Nitish also announced his party’s support to BJP’s Presidential candidate Ramnath Kovind and gave a two hoot to the talk of opposition unity.
- Slowly slowly there was resentment among JDU members also and Nitish requested Tejashwi to step down, but Laloo being Boss of the RJD decline.
- In the end, Nitish submitted his resignation to Governor on 26th July 2017 and BJP offered its support to Nitish for forming govt. So on 27th July 2017, Nitish was once again became CM of Bihar with BJP as alliance partner.
So at last Nitish realised that BJP has better and clean image as compared to RJD and Congress, also it must have dawned on him that Modi’s stature has grown so big as compared other Indian political leaders that he will not stand a chance against Modi in 2019 General elections. It is also a known fact that images of RJD and Congress are at the lowest ebb and which will never help Nitish in even next Bihar assembly election. So he must have thought it will be better to join hands with BJP and rule Bihar.
It is generally said that there are no friends and enemies in Politics , and in this case it has proven correct. Also it is said that ” it is better late than never”, and it truly fits on Nitish.
What you say my friends.
Awaiting for your feed backs and comments.

Dr.Ajay Alok of JDU, yesterday in a interview with Republic also tried to justify by referring support to Notebandi, surgical strike, and good work done by BJP and it’s changed status particularly of Modi and Nitish Kumar’s zero tolerance image on corruption…

Nitish Kumar started siding with BJP from the time he decided to support BJP in Presidential election.

My view is that Nitish had obviously national ambitions. Recent land slide BJP victory in UP & unprecedented rise in popularity of Modi unnerved him. Now he got an opportunity to save his face and also save Bihar for him 😊
