God Men

Recently self proclaimed God man Baba Ram Rahim was convicted for the rapes of two Sadhavis of his Ashram in the year 2002. In  the last 14 years he used all his political connections and pressure on judiciary and CBI to escape punishment, but in the end he could not escape and was sentenced to prison for 20 years. The day he was convicted his supporters defied all the police barricades and sec 144 and created a riot first in Panchkula where Judgement was announced and afterwards at many places in Punjab and Haryana. Where Police had to resort for Lathi charge and  firing and many people lost their lives. The state had to transfer him to jail in Rohtak by helicopter and he was helped by so many police and prison officials because of his political backing, Baba and his team were thinking that he will get away with lighter sentence, but  to the contrary he was awarded 20 years. Under public and media pressure slowly all the political leaders started backing away from .  The details of his property which was put in media was mind boggling and it was really surprising that within span of less than 2 decades he could amass such wealth which is beyond any body’s imagination. Slowly his other scandals started coming out in the media including his various sex escapades. It has been told that most of the politicians of Punjab and Haryana were at his back and call and he patronised all the political parties of that area including BJP and Congress as he controlled large chunk of vote banks.

Let us see the details of some other self proclaimed God men:

1. Asaram Bapu- He also had many ashrams in western India including Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and even Madha Pradesh. He is presently lodged in jail pending trials for raping two girls in his ashram. He also had a large following  and when he was  arrested, his followers also created enough hungama in few cities.
2. Narayan Sai- Son of Asaram, along with his father used to give religious sermons. He is also in jail pending trial for raping two sisters from Surat in the ashram. Both father and son had built a very big empire with huge cash and properties.
3. Sant Rampal- He was also running ashrams in many places in Haryana, where he used to give sermons. Presently he is lodged in jail for the cases where he is charged with Murder and anti national activities.
4. Radhe Ma- real name Sukhvinder Kaur. She is very famous for her religious sermons where she dances like a film actress with heavy filmy style make up. She was also questioned by Police in Mumbai when a lady follower charged her that under her instructions her husband and in laws were torturing her  for dowry. The fate of the case is not known.
5. Nirmal Baba- He used to give sermons to his followers, and used to request his followers to come up with their personal problems which he proclaimed to solve. These types of his program where he is solving the problems used to be televised. Cases  for creating public nuisance and cheating are registered against him in UP. Presently he is not in the lime light.
6. Swami Bhimanand-  He was arrested in 2010 for running a sex racket. The charge against him were that in the guise of giving sermon to girls, he used to get them involved in sex racket.
7. Swami Nityanand- He used to run a big ashram in Bangalore. He was arrested on charges of running a sex racket in his ashram, when his sex tape with Kannada actress Ranjeetha was leaked in the social media.

Above are the few cases which came into lime light, do not know there might be many more self styled god men who must be doing illegal, anti social and sexual activities in different parts of the country. One thing is sure and certain that these types of Babas  can not survive without political and govt administrative patronages. Politicians used them for the obvious reasons, as these Babas control large chunk of votes of their followers which is useful to political parties at the time of elections. It has been said that no political party has won a election in last 2 decades in Haryana without Baba Ram Rahim’s blessings. One thing is sure that all these Babas are good in giving religious sermons which attract masses to them and then slowly these Babas brain wash their followers by instilling love and fear of god in them, and start declaring that they are being send by god on this earth for saving their followers.

I do not know how many of you have seen a Hindi movie named OMG-Oh My God, starring  Paresh Rawal . In the movie Kanjibhi played by Paresh Rawal is against such God men, then Mithun Chakravorty , who plays a God Man like character says to Kanjibhai that it is not love for the God which attracts people to him but it is the fear of god which brings people to flock his sermons meetings and donate generously. That one sentence struck a chord with me, and I thought this inference might be true. All these  Babas play with pschy of gullible people and make money out of them. In return they start some charitable institutions like schools and  hospitals etc to show that they are spending for good cause, but along with that they run sex & drug rackets to make more money, and some times run other anti social activities like smuggling arms etc. To run these activities, with Political patronage they get lands from the govt at throw away prices.
