Today I am writing on cricket, on the subject of cricket records. There are 10 such world records which are standing in the name of Indian cricketers and some of them may not be broken easily in near future:
#10 Most catches in a test match by a fielder other than wicket keeper- Ajinkya Rahane holds this record by holding 8 catches in a test match against Sri Lanka in 2015 at Gale, Sri Lanka.
#9 Most Balls played by batsman during his test career- Rahul Dravid hold the world record for playing highest number of balls in his career of 164 tests, has played 21,258 balls.
#8 Most Double Centuries in One Day International match- Rohit Sharma holds the record for scoring 3 double centuries till date. He scored 209 against Australia at Bangalore on 2nd Nov 2103, scored 264 against Sri Lanka at Kolkata on 13th Nov 2014 and 208 no against Sri Lanka at Mohali on 13th Dec 2017. There are 5 other players, including one from Indian-Sachin Tendulkar, who have scored double century in ODI match, but all of them have scored only once.
#7 Cricket Team Captain who have won under his captainship all the tournaments organised by International Cricket Council (ICC)- MS Dhoni is the only captain who has won T20 World Cup in 2007, ODI World Cup in 2011 and Champions Trophy in 2013.
#6 Scoring Fastest Triple Century- Virender Sehwag holds the world record of scoring fastest triple century. In a test match against South Africa at Chennai in 2007-08 he scored his triple century in just 278 balls. Next fastest is by Mathew Hayden who scored in 362 balls. See the difference between number 1 and number 2. Sehwag has scored one more triple century in 364 balls which stands at number 4 in the fastest triple centuries list.
#5 Most Consecutive Centuries on Debut- Scoring a century on debut in test match is big thing for Batsman, India’s Mohd Azharuddin has scored three centuries in his first three test match, when he made his debut against England in the year 1984.
#4 Most Consecutive Maiden Overs Bowled- R G Nadkarni popularly known as Bapu Nadkarni, who is known as most miser bowler in test cricket once bowled 21 consecutive Maiden overs in test match against England in year 1963, when English team was touring India.
#3 Most Wickets by Bowler in Test Innings- Anil Kumble became the 2nd bowler in Cricketing history after England’s Jim Laker, who has taken all the 10 wickets in test innings. He performed this feat in a test match against Pakistan in the year 2009 at Feroze Shah Kotla ground in Delhi.
#2 Hitting Most Sixes in an over of International Match- During league match against England in T20 World Cup at South Africa in 2009, Yuvraj Singh hit 6 sixes in 6 balls. This feat has not been equalled by any cricketer till date. In that particular match he completed his half century in just 12 balls, which is a world record for the fastest 50 in T20 international match.
#1 Hitting Maximum International Centuries in the career by the batsman- Sachin Tendukkar has scored 100 international centuries during his career from 1989 t0 2012. He has hit 51 test centuries and 49 ODI centuries in his career. He is the only player in cricket history to score 100 international centuries till date. Next batsman with the international centuries is Ricky Ponting who has scored 71 (41 in test and 30 in ODI). Next on the list is Virat Kohli who has scored 66 (25 in test and 41 in ODI). He is the only active player who has every chance to come at number 2 position, looks like Sachin’s record will remain for ever.
Friends, I hope the records set by the Indians will stay for years to come. There are some records like #2 and #3 which can not be surpassed , some cricketer in future can equal this record, like Anil Kumble equalled Jim Laker’s record of taking all 10 wickets in an inning after 44 years.
