Now one more Hindi film has come under controversy, and it is Manikarnika, a film on Rani Laxmi Bai of Jhansi, which is co produced by actress Kangana Ranaut and who also portrays the title role. One outfit called Sarva Brahman Mahasabha (SBM) has started protest against this film as they claim that in the film there are scenes which show the love affair between Laxmi Bai and a British Officer, which is historical incorrect. My opinion on this issue will be:
- SBM’s spoke person says that they have learnt about these scenes from their friends, so therefore they will not allow film makers to distort the history and demean the historical character of Laxmi Bai.
- This is similar to protest by Karni Sena for film Padmavati, where the Karni Sena said there is dream sequence showing love scene between Khilji and Padmavati, Producers and entire cast and crew denied such scene, still the protest continued and the film’s censor certification was delayed, and few states even banned the film before the release. Finally the matter went to Supreme Court (SC).
- What was SC decision-that this film is certified by Censor and as such no state has got the authority to ban this film and all the state govts have to ensure that no untoward incident happens when the film releases. Even after this 2 states again appealed to SC that if they allow the film to be released in their state there will be law and order problems but SC did not relent.
- All these went for almost one and half months, in this process the film got tremendous publicity and once the film got released on 25th Jan 2018, with in few days it was declared super hit.
- Now even members of Karni Sena have given the statement that the film glorifies the Rajput valour and character and there is nothing objectionable in the film. My question to Karni Sena is why they did not believe when producer said there is nothing in the film which demeans Rajput community. Why there were violent protests in so many states and your people did not even spare school children as one school bus in Gurgaon was also attacked.
- In my view if the media had killed this Karni Sena agitation in the beginning by not giving this protest any coverage in print or visual media, this protest would have fizzled out in first few days only. But our press and media never behave sensibly now a days as they want to cover only sensationalism, they never think of repercussion of the news ,which they write or show, on the general public’s mind. All these type of fringe out fits thrive for publicity, and for want of the publicity these types of protests die down naturally.
- Similar thing is about terrorists outfits and anti nationals, they also thrive on free publicity.
- In the name of free press and freedom of expression, the print and visual media will go to any extent to raise their circulations/TRPs. Who gave free publicity to people like Kanihya Kumar- the media made him over night star when the actual fact is he was a total failure as research scholar who was studying in JNU and living off govt grant and you all know what language he used in JNU rally and outside afterwards. Friends do you think this type of person can lead the people for better tomorrow except he has made enough money in last few years. Same is the case of Hardik Patel who led the agitation for Patel reservation in Gujarat, who was not even earning few thousand rupees per month now has property worth crores of rupees. No one from media is asking him now what happened to Patel reservations after the elections are over in Gujarat. There are many such stars in the country , where media is totally responsible for giving them unwanted publicity and making them a stars.
- Now same will be the case of Sarva Brahman Mahasabha, now if media is sensible they should not cover their agitation and tell them to wait for the release of the film Manikarnika and if they find any thing objectionable then agitate against the movie otherwise SC has shown the way to producers also, they can approach SC and curb your agitation before hand.
In the end, friends waiting for your view/feed backs/comments.

Media will do anything but people must use their common sense.
