Thoughts on Tuesday

It is really surprising that after Diwali festival, I am unable to find a single topic on which I can write my daily blog, so today also there are few thoughts which I am going to elaborate :

  1. What is ailing Supreme Court- I fail to understand how SC can upturn its own order which is not even one year old. In last Nov they passed an order directing that it is mandatory that all cinema halls in the country to play national anthem before screening of the films and ordered that all present must stand up in respect. That time SC had said this practice would instill a sense of committed patriotism and nationalism. This judgement  was passed by 3 judge bench headed  by Dipak Mishra, who happens to be Chief Justice of SC now. Yesterday again the 3 judge bench headed by CJI Dipak Mishra along with Judges Khanvilkar and Chandrachud made  an observation  and hinted that SC is ready to modify its earlier order, and further added that it is the job of Centre to take a call on framing appropriate rules and ask Centre to respond by Jan 9, 2018. Justice Chandrachud further commented that” why do have to wear our patriotism on our sleeves, people go to cinema for enjoyment and relaxation” what he further added was really uncalled for, he said” tomorrow someone will enter cinema hall in shorts and T shirts and some moral policing people may object and say it is dis respect to national anthem.” I want to ask one question to Justice DY Chandrachud, people are going to cinema halls in shorts and T shirts for last so many years and no one has raised a question that this is a dis respect to the national anthem. I do not know what is the definition of patriotism and nationalism as per SC or it changes from judges to judges. And as far as I remember, playing of national anthem in cinema halls is gong for last so many decades, in between it was not mandatory,if I am not mistaken it was started after 1965 or 1971 war. It looks like Justice Chandrachud is  not in favour of present govt at centre and because being a son of former Chief Justice of SC, he was promoted very fast by previous govt  and before reaching even 50 years he was made SC judge, and I remember in Legal circle it was widely said even in early years of last decade that he is being groomed to become CJI, which might have become reality if earlier govt had remained in power at centre. Otherwise why a learned judge should make a comment the way he commented yesterday on moral policing which is nowadays generally associated with Sangh Parivar. These are my personal views, and I do not wish to offend any one.
  2. Today, there was one more interesting news in the newspaper regarding constructing  elevated railway tracks over the suburban railway network in Mumbai Metropolitan Region, to reduce congestion on  the existing railway network. It is like starting a Metro rail network over the existing tracks. As per Railway Minister cost envisaged is about Rs 25,000 Cr. Idea on the paper is very good,  but can some one tell me how they will construct the Concrete columns for the elevated rail network, while suburban trains are running almost 20 hours a day. I remember about 3/4 decades back some renowned Engineer had suggested to make the elevated road over the tracks to reduce congestion on the roads, but matter fizzled out as no one could come with an idea of how to construct this elevated road without disturbing suburban railway network. Let us wait and watch for any further development on this subject.
  3. Taxi/Auto Fares- Khatua Committee appointed by Maharashtra Govt to look into Taxi/Auto fare structure, has come out with a brilliant idea which is happy hour fare.  It has suggested that between 12 noon and 4 pm when demand for taxis/autos come down that time fare should be reduced by 15% . Second recommendation worth considering is about telescopic structure of fares- the fare for first 8 kms will be regular rates, and for distance between 8.1 km to 12 km the fare should be reduced by 15% of regular rates, and for distance beyond 12 km reduction of 20%.However this reduction will not be applicable in Happy Hours. I hope both the suggestions should be accepted by Taxi/Auto Unions and Govt, as it will attract more customers.

In the end what you say my friends

Awaiting for your feed backs and comments.

Regarding construction of elevated tracks I think it is feasible if precaat structures are used. Installation can be done during few hours when trains are not running.
I agree with suggestions regarding taxi/ auto fares.
