VIP Culture

In Today’s Times of India, Mumbai,  there is a news item that one MP named Raju Shetti, missed his flight to Delhi from Mumbai as he was waiting in a VIP Lounge after check in. He was under the impression that Airline’s staff will come and inform him about departure of flight. He says that as he was reading newspaper, he did not realise about the time and later he realised that flight departure time is near and still no one from Airline has come to intimate him about flight boarding. He further states that as a MP, he has got the privilege that Airline has to provide him airline staff who has to carry his luggage and escort him to lounge, and then inform him about flight departure.

My few observations on this:

  1. I never realised that our MP s are so weak that they can not carry their hand bag or push their luggage trolley.
  2. I presume there will be display monitor in the VIP Lounge, as Mumbai Airport do not make flight announcement being a silent airport, he could have seen his flight status on the monitor.
  3. The MP   further stated that he will take up this matter with Civil Aviation Minister.
  4. Few months back also there was another MP, who created a ruckus in flight and at the airport regarding his flight did not have business class. It  was very simple before conforming his flight he or his staff should have checked about flight having business class or not.
  5. All these Ministers, MPs and MLAs believe that they are masters and others who are offering any services to them are their personal servants. They behave that they have now big shots and every one should listen and obey them. In reality they are public servant and they should listen to public voice, which they do not.
  6. All these pseudo VIPs should realise that  in our country , there are thousands of businessmen who are super rich, and who always travel business or first class. No airlines provide them all these type of services  at airport, and generally if some one is doing for them, it is their  employees  who are travelling with them. I have seen JRD Tata  and Ratan Tata carrying their baggage and proceeding to boarding gate.
  7. This VIP culture is one of the reason why govt can not function smoothly. Why security should be provided to public servants, unless some one is on the terrorists hit list, and these people are afraid of whom, the same public who have elected them or some bad social elements because of their wrong past. Proving security all the Ministers, MPs, MLAs and other dignitaries is costing the exchequer very heavily. No other country in the world is spending so much on the security of their public servants.
  8. These MPs along with their salary also get many perks , which are mind boggling. Classical example is Rs 15,000 per month as telephone expenses. you all know that now a days most of the telecons cos have so many schemes, you can in Rs 399 per month get all local and STD calls free with 1 GB data.
  9. It is high time to abolish this VIP culture, as this expenditure is increasing day by day. Modi govt has made a start by banning red beacon on the VIPs’ cars. It is a small beginning, lets keep our fingers crossed.

What you say my friends.

Awaiting for your feed backs/suggestions/comments.

Spot on Anil. Leaders need to know they are elected to serve and not to be served. Well put.

The public servants after electing must be feeling like public and Nation’s Boss and expecting to be at his/her beck and call. Egoistic elected members should be put on dishwashers training first to know that, they no more bosses but public servants first and then the members of elected lot. However those who realise should be allowed to proceed with their work with honesty.
Faltu soch ko bhagane ka ek hii tariqa. Make them slog for few days in the Canteen serving others to know their place well, before proceeding for the responsible work. These are my views of being kind for their innocent thinking unknown till they soften up for important duties to fulfill in the interest of public who voted them for becoming their representatives.
