Canadian PM

For the last few days Canadian PM Justin Trudeau along with his family  is on tour to India. There were news all over the media that govt is not giving enough importance to his visit to India because of Canada’s soft corner towards Khalistani movement and  its leaders who are based in Canada. The PMO then issued a press statement that first that first few days of Canadian  PM’s visit was a personal one and there was request from his office that there should be minimum protocol when he is with family, and as soon as he starts meeting people officially he will given due importance which is accorded to head of the state of  other country.

Yesterday Canadian PM had a meeting with Punjab CM  Capt Amarinder Singh at Amritsar, where Punjab CB briefed Canadian PM of Canadian Based Khalistani activiss who are still engaged in anti Indian activities, CM further gave Trudeau list which contained the name of 9 Khalistani activists who are based in Canada. Trudeau assured Capt Amarinder Singh that his country did not support movements in India or anywhere in the world.

Indian Govt also took strong objection to presence of Convicted Khalistani activist Jaspal Atwal in a function in Mumbai on 20th Feb, where he was seen posing with Canadian PM’s wife Sophie Trideau. There was also a rumour that Jaspal Atwal is part of  Canadian delegation. Jaspal Atwal was also invited for a formal dinner with the Canadian PM hosted by Canadian High Commissioner on 22nd Feb. This invitation has become huge embarrassment to Canadian govt, after Trudeau had categorically told Punjab CM that Canada will neither provide a safe harbour for any separatists/terrorists. Then the Canadian PMO issued a statement  that this individual Jaspal Atwal is not part of  official delegation to Canadian PM’s visit to India and nor he was invited by the PMO. as is the case with international trips, many individuals travel on their own to location of tour. canadian PMO further added that this individual  should never have been invited to any event on the program connected  with PM Justin Trudeau and his family’s visit to India and his invitation has been rescinded. PMO is in the process of investigating how this happened. Friends , if you do not know who is Jaspal Atwal, let me tell you,  he was active member of  International Sikh Youth Federation, this federation was connected with Khalistani movement and sponsoring Sikh terrorism in Punjab state. Jaspal Atwal was convicted for the attempted murder of Punjab Minister Malkiat Singh Sindhu on Vancouver Island in 1986.

With the tough stand taken by Indian govt on the issue of Khalistani activism/terrorism, the Canadian PMO was forced to change their strategy regarding  Khalistani terrorism. This could have been only possible with behind the scene strong measures taken by our Foreign Ministry. Canadian Govt must have realised that on the question of terrorism Modi Govt has got world wide support and the presence of Jaspal Atwal on Indian soil will be deterrent to  Indo/Canada relations. It is not sure whether the majority of Sikhs settled in Canada support the Khalistani movement now, but for Canadian govt Sikhs are big force in Canadian politics, and  it has been predicted that very shortly a Sikh( Sardar or Clean Shaven) will occupy the top chair of the govt in Canada.
