Farmers Loan

For last few weeks, there have been many demands and agitations by opposition parties in Maharashtra regarding farmer’s loan waiver. Today , after reading a news item in Times of India, I felt like laughing. The news item stated that”” Govt should talk and involve Sharad Pawar, who is leader of farmers, for solving farmers’ issue””.

My observations on this

1. Now Sharad Pawar has become farmers’ leader, but his party NCP with Congress  was ruling the state of Maharashtra for 15 years, starting from 1999. During this period  only farmers problem started.
2. During this period instead of solving problems of farmers, NCP ministers were busy swindling the govt exchequer with their involvement in various scams.
3. During this period , the irrigation system never improved because of which farmers suffered, as they could not get enough water to cultivate their crops.
4. Govt gave farmers loan to buy irrigation pumps, but due to lack of water resources, these pumps become redundant, but farmers have to pay the interest on loans.
5. All Agricultural produce markets are controlled by NCP and Congress big shots, who always used to give less procuring prices to farmers. When the crops are ready and farmers are ready to sell, the agents of these markets refuse to give the farmers the correct price of their produce, and they create artificial scarcity in the retail market, as the persons controlling the market have holding powers. Now farmers do not have holding power and they can not stock the ready crops, in the end they have no choice but to sell their produce at prices offered by the agents.
6. In the 15 years , when Congress/NCP were in power, the irrigation system of Maharashtra , showed a growth of max 15%, but the govt in that period spend almost  one lakh crore rupees on irrigation projects. During all this period Irrigation Minister belonged to NCP.  CBI/ED are in conducting an inquiry against various irrigation scams, which surfaced during their regime.
7. If Ministers of NCP and persons controlling the markets have done their job faithfully, farmers would not faced this situation, when so many of them committed suicide. But these politicians know only one job, that is how to make money and they are not bothered about the sufferings of general and poor public.

Now all these political leaders are showing sympathy to farmers, but when they were in govt that time they did nothing for them.
